o As with any course where there is an online element to the instruction provided, it is extremely important for students in this class to be selfmotivated and willing to research and keep with posted instruction and coursework both in and outside of the classroom. o If you have problems throughout this course, please keep the lines of communication open with me. Feel free to use me as a resource -- that is what I am here for . o All assignments are due by the date listed above in the WEEK COLUMN of the Course Outline Table. o Each day that an assignment is late, 10 percent will be deducted from the specific assignment until there are no points left.

Unit Description:
Exploring the Element of Texture- Throughout this unit you will research, learn about, and demonstrate your understanding of the Art Element of Texture. Content Standard 1: You will apply skills and knowledge to perform in the arts.

Unit Instructions:
Project Guidelines Pages (10 points) o Students will format and keep a guidelines page for the upcoming project. This page will serve as a reference for the students as to what is expected when this project is assessed at the conclusion of the assignment. Guidelines will be provided online and in the classroom to insure student success. There will be a rubric provided for the assessment of these artistic pages. (Link will be added Info Provided Below Temporarily).
-Guidelines for Texture Project: * Six Texture Stations - Wall Orange / Blue - Fan #1 Purple / Yellow - Crate Yellow / Purple - Fan #2 Blue / Orange - Heater Red / Green - Grate Green / Red *Move around the room to each of the 6 texture stations and get rubbings with the assigned color of crayon * Watercolor paint over the top of the rubbing with the complementary color * Brainstorm Imaginary animal (use pieces of at least 3 different animals) * Cut out imaginary animal * Cut out series of organic and geometric shapes to be glued over top of animal *Cover entire animal with overlapping textures (trim where needed) *Create landscape using brown paper to be glued over top of black background *Glue imaginary animal over top of background

o Take a DIGITAL PICTURE OF YOUR COMPLETED GUIDELINES PAGE and post it to the link provided for assessment (Link will be added) Rough Draft / Thumbnail Sketches / Big Ideas (5 points) o You are expected to come up with new and innovative way to demonstrate the guidelines for each project. For this reason, you are required to brainstorm and come up with rough ideas prior to working on their final piece of artwork. These rough drafts will be assessed and approved prior to receiving approval to move on the final project. o Take a DIGITAL PICTURE OF YOUR ROUGH DRAFT and post it to the link provided for assessment (Link will be added) Element of Texture Project Grade (30 points) o After completing the rough draft and receiving instructor approval, you may move on to the final project. Materials will be provided for the completion of the final project. There will be a demonstration of techniques for using the desired medium for each project. It is the your responsibility to be able to understand and demonstrate these techniques effectively while also considering the craftsmanship of the final project. There will be a rubric

provided for the assessment of each final project. o Take a DIGITAL PICTURE OF YOUR FINISHED TEXTURE PROJECT and post it to the link provided for assessment (Link will be added) Written Element of Texture Assessment / Blog Post (20 points) o You are required to review and fully understand and retain the important information throughout each assignment. o Write an essay explaining the process you followed to create your personal piece of artwork for this project. Be sure to fully explain how you met each of the guidelines and requirements provided for you in the PROJECT GUIDELINES section of this project. o Post your TEXTURE ESSAY to the like provided for this assignment. Discussion Question:
Artist Research Pages GIAN BERNINI (10 points) o You are required to research an artist for each project we complete throughout this class. All research will be conducted outside of class using both provided information, as well as individually researched information as well. It is important for you to be able to demonstrate the knowledge gained from their research. The Artist Research Pages will consist of the 5 Ws (Who?, What?, When?, Where?, Why is this artist important? listing 3 reasons why). You will also print off two examples of the artists work to be displayed on the artist page as well. There will be a rubric provided for the assessment of these artistic pages. o Post your written response to the discussion board by 11/14 (Link to discussion board will be added) o Please remember to respond to at least ONE of your classmates discussion posts.

Artists statement / Answer to Discussion Question (20) Participation (25) o You will be awarded 10 points participation per week for showing up to class prepared and working from the beginning to the end of class. It is also important for you to remember to use class time effectively and leave enough time at the end of class to clean up properly.
