Objective: SWBAT describe how people can work in the community. SWBAT understand that there are many different careers in the community SWBAT describe each major career in the community SWBAT identify what career they would like to have when they grow up. SWBAT understand people work for money (pay checks) to pay for things. Grouping: Whole Group/ Small group Procedure: Monday: Materials: Chart Paper TW explain to students that this week we are learning about community helpers. TW read a book about community helpers. TW explain what the different community helpers are. She will explain how people can work in the community and how each person has a job to do. TW and SW discuss and review why people have careers and why they are important. TW and SW make a circle map using chart paper. TW review with the students how people use automobiles to travel to different places using the Without Apology strategy. (Lemov Strategy) TW ask students what are different ways that people travel from one place to another. She will use the Stretch It strategy during questions. (Lemov Strategy) She will also ask students to Think, Pair, Share. (Kagen Strategy) Closure: TW will tell students now that they have learned what community helpers are, tomorrow, they will learn about how many different ways people can work and what tools they need to be successful. Tuesday: Materials: book about community helpers, chart paper TW read book about community helpers TW and SW build on the circle map that was created on Monday. They will discuss the different types of community helpers there are. SW will complete those worksheets during Independent Practice. Closure: TW will tell students now that they know about community helpers.

Wednesday: Materials: book about community helpers, chart paper TW and SW build on the circle map that was created Monday. TW read a book about community helpers TW compare different careers in the community. They will compare the similarities and differences. Closure: TW tell students that now that they have learned about community helpers. Thursday: Materials: Chart Paper TW and SW build on the circle map that was created on Monday. TW review community helpers SW choose on community helper to research for their page in our class book (shared research) Closure: SW pair share what community helper they chose and why. Friday: Materials: chart paper TW read book about community helpers TW and SW build on the circle map that was created on Monday. TW model how to create their class book page about what they want to be when they grow up. SW will complete those worksheets during Independent Practice. She will also ask students to Think, Pair, Share. (Kagen Strategy) Closure: class book share time Assessment: Observation
