$oint %& $ersuasion and leadership began very long ago. The book provides an overview of the origination of persuasion. Leadership of some form must have e'isted long ago or else no one would have ever come to power. These leaders possessed some sort of leadership and skill of persuasion. $oint & There are many different kinds of persuasion. $ersuasion can vary from using very ethical ways to swing a person(s beliefs to unethical ways such as bullying.

relevant research and current information to support the validity of the book content. )laborate on these key ideas *in previous task+ by evaluating the ideas and applying the ideas to your understanding of intercultural competence.

$oint "& $ersuasion e'ists in many facets of our day to day lives. The art of persuasion can be seen in situations involving talking to non!talking activities such as watching movies or viewing art. ,dea %& -ccording to Soder * .%%+/ persuasion has been going on since the beginning of time and it is necessary to be a successful leader/ it is how a leader chooses to persuade. The leader must be successful at persuading in order to have followers. 0istory has demonstrated that in order to lead you must persuade. Teachers are natural persuaders. -s a teacher/ you must be able to persuade students to want to learn. This takes many forms including passion for the subject and encouragement given to the student. Teachers who have students who are learning a second language must be able to persuade. ,t is difficult to learn a second language so it is necessary for teachers to persuade learners to see the importance as well as feel positive about their progress. ,dea & -s a teacher many types of persuasion can be used. The use of ethos/ logos/ and pathos are forms of persuasion. Soder states that ethos is a type of persuasion where character is most important above all other things/ logos is where the persuader uses reason and logic and pathos is where the persuader uses the emotions of others. ,n the case of a teacher of a student learning a second language , believe that Logos would be one of the most useful ways to persuade/ especially when teaching older students. This form of persuasion uses research as a way to provide reason and solutions. 1or many people/ if an idea is researched and proven/ then it must be good. 2any students will trust their teacher if they were able to prove that their methods of teaching a second language are better than others. ,dea "& $ersuasion e'ists in our daily lives in places besides speech. Soder believes that persuasion e'ists in movies/ art/ music/ and literature. This means that you can be persuaded to feel or believe a certain way just by reading a book/ watching a movie/ or analy#ing a piece of art. This is especially important to students who are learning a second language. 3eing unfamiliar with -merican culture can alter the way a person views a book or movie. -s a teacher we need to be sensitive to this and provide students with the opportunity to grow but not give students the wrong idea.

, believe that leadership has e'isted since the beginning of time. 5hen 6od created -dam/ he was created to take care of and lead the animals and land. -t this time , believe that leadership was perfect in 6od(s eyes. Over time leadership changed since the fall of man. Today it was changed so much that we have so many different kinds of leadership. This book gives an overview of the history/ but , believe that the origin of leadership is a different view than mine. Leadership is easily applied into teaching because you are persuading daily. Teachers who teach students learning a second language are especially impacted because the students look to the teacher as a guide to learn and grow. ,f the teacher is not a good leader/ the students do not have as much opportunity to grow and flourish. , believe that this book connects most to the communicative theory. 5hen discussing the role of leadership and 74L students there needs to be communication in order for students to learn. 2ost of the communication would come from the students/ but the students become the persuaders because they are making their teacher feel that they are confident with the material they have learner. The book also discusses democratic views which support seminars where students are able to debate/ discuss/ and persuade their point. 4emocratic discussions support the communicative theory because students have to actively

This reading has helped me gain a perspective of not only how old leadership is but also where it e'ists in our daily lives. 3eing a part of this jigsaw activity has allowed me to see how important leadership is to being a teacher because of our ability to apply the content of the te't to teaching. 1or e'ample/ , never thought of persuasion as part of movies or art. 8ow/ , have a different perspective. deeper understanding of the language. This study has helped me make connections between teacher and leader. 2aking these connections , hope will help me reali#e that , can be a leader. Students need their teachers to be able to lead them. Students rest their fate in teacher(s hands to help make them a better individual. That may be/ learning a second language to learning content matter. Students who are learning a second language even more so look to their teacher as a leader because they may feel out of place or not understand what is going on in the world that surrounds them.
