ABSTRACT

Research has provided empirical support to the contention that enhanced quality of work life leads to
improved employee satisfaction and fulfillment, increased mutual trust, reduced stress and
improved health, increased job security and commitment. The purpose of this paper is to provide
empirical evidence on the level of quality of work life among the academic staff in one of the
leading public universities in Malaysia. The paper also investigated whether there were
relationships between quality of work life dimensions and organizational commitment. A survey
instrument comprising 300 sets of questionnaire was distributed to academic staff in selected
faculties, and 170 useable questionnaires were used for statistical analysis. The results showed
that there were moderate relationships between quality of work life dimensions with affective
commitment and normative commitment. Limitations of the study and directions for future
