Section A: Directed Writing

You are advised to spend about 45 minutes on this section.

Question 1

You are the monitor of your class. Your class is organising a farewell party for one of your
classmates who will be leaving for the United Kingdom soon. You have been asked to give a
farewell speech for him. Use the following notes to help you write your speech.

 Purpose of speech – bid farewell

 Leaving in a week’s time

 Popular – school prefect
 Been with the class - 4 years
 Sportsman - school representative
 Handball, soccer – national level
 Warm, friendly
 Reliable, responsible
 Will be missed

Question 2

Write a composition of about 350 words on one of the following topics.

(a) Write a letter to a pen pal describing interesting events that will take place during

Visit Malaysia Year 2007.

(b) Reading comic books encourages violence among teenagers. Do you agree?

(c) What kind of life do you want to have twenty years from now?

(d) Write a story that begins with

“It was a beautiful day. Nothing could have spoilt the day until…”

(e) My beloved country.
