Each February, on the rst Saturday of the month, SAWP hosts a one day Teachers Conference open to area teachers where SAWP Teacher Consultants share innovative lessons for teaching and writing. These conferences include a guest speaker and two professional development sessions.
Open Institutes
SAWP offers one-week open institutes in area schools focusing on the teaching of writing. These in-service workshops are customized to meet the needs of school districts. Topics include the basics of teaching writing, the reading-writing connection, writing in the content areas, and college readiness.
ABOUT
The San Antonio Writing Project (SAWP) is a local, non-prot organization designed to promote the effective teaching of writing across all content areas in San Antonio area schools from ages Pre-k through the University level. Our Teacher Consultants complete a ve-week Summer Institute and share a belief that writing is essential for learning in all content areas. SAWP is housed in the Department of Interdisciplinary Learning and Teaching in the College of Education at The University of Texas at San Antonio and is the local afliate of the National Writing Project.
Super Saturdays
The San Antonio Writing Project offers continuing professional development opportunities for its TCs and local area teachers. Events are free and open to teachers from any level and discipline who are interested in improving their teaching of writing. 3 hours of professional development credit is provided for attending each Saturday.

Writing Marathon
Mar
Join fellow writers and teachers for an afternoon of walking, writing, and fun. The Cuentos, Kahani, EYaGI, and Historias projects (A celebration of Student writers from here and around the world). Each Summer SAWP offers young writers camps for area youth to experience the joy of writing. An opportunity for teachers to grow and develop as writing teachers.
Teacher Consultants
All Summer Invitational graduates become Teacher Consultants (TCs). As a SAWP Teacher Consultant, you will become part of the SAWP community, a collegial network which offers resources and programs for deepening your knowledge about the teaching of writing and literacy. As a SAWP Teacher Consultant you will be given opportunities to expand your role as a community leader by offering your experience and expertise in helping foster professional development in schools, summer programs for teachers, Young Writers Camps, teacher research programs, Saturday seminar sessions, special interest groups, and much more. Eligibility We are seeking strong classroom teachers with at least 3 years teaching experience, as well as school principals, and other educators who are interested in taking on leadership positions in the San Antonio Writing Project and its ongoing work with the surrounding community.

Purpose:
The SAWP Summer Invitational Institute is at the heart of the project, and with the experience and guidance of the National Writing Project, attempts to: - identify successful teachers of writing across all curriculum areas in San Antonio area schools and colleges who will be effective teachers of other teachers. - identify approaches to the teaching of writing and the uses of writing-to-learn in all subject areas that have been successful in real classrooms, and that add to the professions knowledge. - involve teachers in their own writing so that they can better help their students. - examine basic issues of equity and access as they affect student learning. - Share current research in the eld with teachers.
