Media Production and Analysis: ATAR - a summary of syllabus changes

This table summarises the main changes that have occurred in the process of adapting Stage 2 and Stage 3 of this course into Year 11 and Year 12 syllabuses for implementation in 2015 (Year 11) and 2016 (Year 12).
The rationale re-written to reflect changes in syllabus content and to update concepts and terminology Content organisers modified from the current four (media language, audiences, production context, skills and processes) to five (media languages, representation, audience, production, skills and processes) Description of the content organisers revised and updated The Stage 2 units revised with some modification to content, with some dot points being removed, combined or rewritten to clarify the intent of the original concept and focus of the unit The Stage 3 units revised with some modification to content, with some dot points being removed, combined or rewritten to clarify the intent of the original concept and focus of the unit Based on previous Media Production and Analysis WACE course assessment table Examination has been added as a separate type (but no examination design brief is provided - as Year 11 syllabuses have no WACE exam) Investigation has been removed to better reflect the expectation o f syllabus assessment. The result is a more appropriate shift to response. This provides greater flexibility for teachers in developing written assessment tasks As per the Year 11 assessment table except that it is specified that the semester examinations need to reflect the examination design brief of the course The requirement that at least one production be completed over the course of the two units provides teachers with greater flexibility in designing the practical component to fulfil the external (practical) production requirements Weightings of each assessment type are fixed Response 30% previously 20-30% Production 50% previously 40-60% Examination 20% now reflects part of the original function of the response assessment type which was previously set at 20-30% Weightings of each assessment type are fixed Response 20% previously 20-30% Production 50% previously 35-55% Examination 30% now reflects part of the original function of the response assessment type which was previously 25-35%
