UNIT/CHAPTER OBJECTIVE/GENERALIZATION/BIG IDEA: The lesson on Government will recognize and name the current President of the United States as described in the TN State social studies K.18. LESSON OBJECTIVE: Given a coloring worksheet TLW color and name the current president with a score of two out of three on the rubric. Given a graphic organizer TLW demonstrate a clearing understanding of the current president with a score of two out of three on the rubric. Given a computer TLW will recognize and identify the current president by name with a score of two out of three on the rubric. STANDARDS ADDRESSED: K.18 Recognize and name the current President of the United States. ISTE Standard 3. Research and information fluency. Students apply digital tools to gather, evaluate, and use information. b. Locate, organize, analyze, evaluate, synthesize, and ethically use information from a variety of sources and media.

MATERIALS:
Coloring worksheet Crayons Computer Internet access to http://www.crayola.com/free-coloring-pages/print/us-president-barack-obama-coloring-page/ and www.inspiration.com Pencil Glue Poster board

Technology Integration Students will use the websites above to recognize and name the current president. BACKGROUND and RATIONALE: Students will demonstrate a clear understanding of the current President of the United States by visual and written representation. This lesson is a continuation of the TN social studies K.17.
Students will learn more about this lesson in the TN social studies K.19.

PROCEDURES AND TIMELINE: Introduction: Begin by showing a video clip of a kid being president for a day. Provide some information about the current President of the United States. For the next 15 minutes the student will use the coloring worksheet to make learning about the current president easier.

Procedures:

Prior to the computer (15 minutes) Teacher procedures: 1. After the introduction distributes the crayons and give directions on how to complete the coloring worksheet when given. Student procedures: 1. Students will discuss what they know about the current president. At the computer (15 minutes) Teacher procedures: 1. The Internet will be open. 2. Direct students to the coloring worksheet website. 3. Students will print out the worksheet. 4. Assist and monitor. Student procedures: 1. Students will go to the coloring worksheet website. 2. Students will print off the coloring sheet. After the computer (15 minutes) 1. Monitor students while coloring 2. Give students five minutes to discuss the reading on the coloring worksheet. Student procedures: 1. Students will color their worksheet. 2. Students will discuss the reading on the coloring worksheet. 3. Students will begin to work on their support activity. Prior to the computer (15 minutes) Teacher procedures: 1. Teacher will introduce information about graphic organizers to the students, the following information about our current president will be on the graphic organizer: name, birth date and number of presidency. Student procedures: 1. Students will answer three questions from the support activity to go on their graphic organizer. At the computer (15 minutes) Teacher procedures:

1. The inspiration website will be open. 2. Assist students in making a three circle graphic organizer. 3. Assist students while printing. Student procedures: 1. Students will create a three circle graphic organizer. 2. Students will enter the three things needed on the organizer. 3. Students will print out the finish work. After the computer (15 minutes) Teacher procedures: 1. Assist and monitor students while using glue to put their coloring and graphic organizer worksheets on their poster board. Student procedures: 1. Students will glue their coloring worksheet and graphic organizer to the poster board.

Support activity Students will complete a fill in the blank worksheet. Closure: Students will volunteer to show off their poster about our current president. At the end of class the teacher will collect the poster boards.

MODIFICATIONS: I am aware that modifications will be made for students who did not master the objectives and for those ready for enrichment. However, modifications are not covered in this course and are not part of this particular lesson.
