Problem scenario:
I am putting together a 30-minute engaging instructional lesson for 7th graders in order to help them learn
algebra.

Objectives:
I am hoping by the end of my 30-minute lesson for my 7th grade students that they are able to understand
the concept of algebra to pass a test. The students will be able to demonstrate how to solve for x by
solving multiple problems on a test. During the lesson, I am hoping the students will ask questions if they
are confused with one of the steps.

Instructional materials:
I will print out a handout for my students that has the notes from the PowerPoint as well as free space that
gives them room to copy the examples I do. I will also use mini whiteboards and markers so the students
can practice problems and also have the fun of using the whiteboards along the way. To present my
information, I will use a PowerPoint that has all the notes the kids need to know as well as different
examples we will go over.

Technology required:
In order to present my PowerPoint, I will need a Smart Board that can show the presentation. Also, with
the feature of a Smart Board, I will be able to write directly next to the PowerPoint which will make it
convenient for the students to copy down the material.

Engaging activities and instructional strategies:

In order to keep the students engaged, I also want them to be able to practice the lesson at the same time.
To be able to incorporate both, I would give the students a practice problem on the same whiteboards and
give them only 5 minutes to complete it. I think this will give me an immediate understanding for whether
3

or not the students are understanding what I am teaching. For instructional strategies, I will print out a
hand out of the PowerPoint I am giving so they can follow along easier and they wont have to copy
everything down.

Assessment:
In order to know if my students understand what is being taught, I will do what any other teacher does
and give my students a test or a quiz. After only a 30 minutes of instruction, I would give my quiz
because there is not a lot of time to give them a long test. For a quiz, I would be able to put a couple of
questions from the lesson that they learned and assess them quickly and easily.
