To South Dakota Society for Technology Education Scholarship Committee Members: It is my privilege to write a letter of reference for Andrew Berndt as a candidate for your SDSTE Scholarship application process. I have known Andrew as a student at DHS for nine years while serving as Superintendent for the Deubrook Area Schools District. Andrews qualities as a person begin with his school accomplishments. He has maintained a steady position on the honor roll with a 3.511 GPA and ranked 13th in a class of 34. He is a member of the National Honor Society. Eligibility for NHS membership evaluated Andrews scholarship, leadership, service, and character. Andrew continues to use his talents and interests on these traits. Andrew has been recognized by his classmates holding various class officer positions. Andrew has been a key figure using technology skills throughout the school. He has been a member of the Deubrook Technology Club since his freshman year. He is the president of this organization in his senior year. His teachers recognize him for his leadership, work ethic, and attentiveness to details. During his years of membership in the FFA organization Andrew has held office and competed at high levels, reaching Sate and Chapter awards. Andrew has spearheaded many events for students and staff that promote FFA and the positive traits this organization offers to students. Andrew has also been an outstanding stage manager in the spring All-School plays. Andrew has competed in oral interpretation events, and is a co-senior editor of the yearbook. While maintaining a busy school life, Andrew has been active in his Brookings County 4-H club earning many prestigious awards and trips. He also puts in many hours of chores while operating a business out of his home with his dad, raising bottle calves for sale. Andrew is active in his church group at the church which I belong. Andrew is an organized, helpful, person who will be a positive asset in whatever field of study he attempts in post secondary education. I have no reservations in recommending Andrew Berndt as an outstanding young person. He is an excellent candidate for the Scholarship which he is applying. Sincerely,

Kevin Keenaghan Superintendent
