Bruccoli, Matthew. Students Encyclopedia of American Literary Characters. Facts on File Library of American Literature, Gale Virtual Reference Library (2008): 487512. Academic OneFile. Web. 8 Apr. 2014.

In this source it refers to students ideas and research in many different short stories and novels, one of which is The Birth-Mark. Its goes into depth on the story itself, the plot points, characters, setting, tone etc. basically covering most of the literary elements, as well as a few criticisms. After describing and going into the background of each of there literary devises, they then move on to focusing on compare and contrast to other great short stories or novels, that have good aspects to relate to. I felt that there was a lot to be used out of this source, for it gave me the perspective of other students just like me. This allows me to interoperate my story better, but using the same compares and contrast method I mentioned earlier. Obtaining different points of view is vital in seeing the short story as a whole, rather the staying closeminded to my opinion alone. It will give me ideas and aspects that I may might not of seen, and will give me the edge I need to create a well interpreted and analyzed essay.

Copland, Sarah. To Be Continued: The Story Of Short Story Theory And Other Narrative Theory. Narrative 22.1 (2014): 132-149. Academic Search Complete. Web. 8 Apr. 2014.

This source is not related to my short story The Birth-Mark in any way what so ever. All it focuses on are all the different types of narrative theory, literary elements including the multiple types of criticisms. When is comes to the narrative theory, it goes in depth of how certain authors tones and writing can obtain hidden meaning behind their writing. It focuses on Literary elements in the aspect of what to truly look for, when for instance you are analyzing the characters. And their criticisms are to a degree similar to the descriptions given in our classroom book, but go into a little more detail. The reason why I used this source was for the simplest reason of helping me better understand the aspects in which I would interpret, and research my paper on. It will help me with some tactics on finding hidden meaning in my short story, through specific writing methods and tips. It will also help me better find the meaning behind certain sentences or paragraphs. When it comes to the literary elements, it will help me on what to look for, as well as help me better understand my specific criticism, which happens to be feminist criticism.

Dakdouk 3 This source is centered on the author and his background in the goal to form a thesis of his purpose and meaning behind each of his short stories, rather then on the stories themselves. This method is being used for the reasoning that this author in particular is known to use aspects of his life in his short stories. It goes into detail about his different emotions portrayed in different pieces he has made. They even go on into depth on details on the author outside of his stories, and that really fascinated me and is what real drove me to us this source. For understanding his life will make it easier to understand the meaning behind some of his pieces. The relevance of this source can be described by this simple sentence. One can not truly understand creation, until they truly understand the creator. These are my words. What I am trying to say in the pervious statement is to understand your author, is to better understand his meaning and purpose, as well as interpret and analyze their work in a more sufficient way. Which I feel will give me the edge I need on my essay. And that is the first and only purpose behind the use of this source.

Hawthorne, Nathaniel. The Birth-Mark. The Norton Introduction to Literature. Ed Kelly J. Mays, 11. New York. 2013. 720. Print

This source is a basic and obvious source; it is my short story The Birth-Mark which is found in the book that is required for the class. In this source I can find the story that I am researching by Hawthorne. Which gives great comparison to what the authors style of wright and purpose. Other then that the main and most obvious purpose of this source is that it has my story in it plane and simple. And I cant do a research paper on a store if I don't read it, can I?

Dakdouk 4 The relevance of this source is that of my short story, with good feed back at the begging on the basis of the author as a writer and gives great questions at the end of the story on how to interpret and understand his work. Looking at one of his short stories that I liked to use and compare to was The Ambitious Guest. Hit shows a lot more emotion and will help me to better understand the author. I will also use this source as a basis to us all the information from my other sources and apply them to the writing directly as I reread it. This method I believe, will give me a smooth and easy way to correctly interpret the story and connecting it to my criticism.

Jeffrey. "Nathaniel Hawthorne's The Birth-Mark." The Explicator 70.2 (2012): 133136. Academic OneFile. Web 8 Apr. 2014

This source is basic. It is just an interpretation and analysis of the short story that I am working on. Not only does it have the short story but it also has notes on the side of every major plot point in the story, which goes into depth of the purpose or any hidden meaning. So the only difference between this source and my book source is that there are side notes on every section of the story for better interpretation. The relevance of this source is only to give me inside hints on this short story. To help me better understand the true purpose of some aspects in my short story. And will help me better interpret the story in my own way, by helping me understanding the interpretation of professionals who can understand and interpret it correctly in areas that I may mess up. I will then correlate my information and use these statements to support my own.
