Introduction Overview Parts under operation and the principle Solar-Aero electric power plant Why Floating chimney? Social and economic benefits Technical Issues Is it feasible? Conclusion
INTRODUCTION
The floating solar chimney technology is the source of renewable energy for the present and future world. It is a simple technology that makes use of solar updraft tower in which the air turbines are rotated by the dynamic energy(buoyancy) of the up drafting warm air in the floating chimney combined with greenhouse.
This green technology is cost efficient, low maintenance, highly safe, agriculturally productive, with high efficiency of power production
OVERVIEW
German engineer Prof. Dr. Ing. Jorg Schlaigh, built a working model of a solar chimney power plant in 1982 in Spain. Annually 100MW power can be produced and it can operate throughout the year , 24 hours a day. In comparison with concrete solar chimneys these floating chimneys are with high efficiency and low cost.
SAEP is similar to Hydro Electric Power Plant as water turbines convert dynamic energy (due to gravity) to rotational energy similarly in SAEP the dynamic energy (due to buoyancy) is converted to rotational energy.
In order to build efficient and cheap SAEP and less expensive than concrete solar towers Floating solar chimneys are lighter than air structures that can be up to 3 km providing efficient air up draft.
Reduce production of 900,000 tons of greenhouse gases annually. Agriculture is promoted Condensation at night provides moisture to soil
TECHNICAL ISSUES
Floating SAEP must be free from heavy winds. Large land area required not suitable for area with high cost / acre
Corrosion of materials
IS IT FEASIBLE?
Easily available parts in commercial market and can be installed anywhere Green technology that overcomes the present energy crisis and global warming Renewable energy source and efficient electricity production
CONCLUSION
This technology has the potential to replace all the energy activities related to fossil fuelled activities and to eliminate energy crisis
We should start building floating solar chimneys to bring a solution to global warming and in succeeding to generate zero emission clean electricity
