Robert Elam 9 Weeks Curriculum 3rd Grade Elementary General Music 2014

In a 3rd general music classroom, it is important for every student to gain the fundamental aspects of music stated explicitly in the National Standards for Music Education. Each class period should be an opportunity for students to learn and apply musical ideas in a way that will foster their growth as musicians. Every concept should build upon the previous and allow students to use previously learned material to aid with their understanding. It is important for students to become proficient in singing and maintaining a consistent pulse. The ability to memorize simple tunes and ostinato is also beneficial to the students.

Playing instruments will allow students to perform music in ways other than singing. Composers write music to express their ideas and students need to read music to perform correctly. History and culture have a huge effect on music and teaching history and culture will allow students to relate to others more easily.
