Bad Egg, Good Egg Description: This activity will teach the students about proper nutrition while incorporating a spring theme. Subject: Health Grade: 4th Duration: 30 min Indiana Academic Standards: HW.3.5 2007 !tudents will demonstrate the ability to use decision"ma#ing s#ills to enhance health. This standard includes the essential steps needed to ma#e healthy decisions as prescribed in the per$ormance indicators. !tudents list the steps o$ a decision"ma#ing process which enables them to collaborate with others to improve %uality o$ li$e now and in the $uture. !et up the two 'aster bas#ets in $ront o$ the class. Hide the eggs around the room +or outside in a speci$ic area&nstruct the students that each egg has a healthy or unhealthy $ood on it. They are to move around the room and $ind an egg with a healthy $ood and then another egg with an unhealthy $ood. When each student has two eggs they will return to their seats. The teacher will then ma#e groups o$ 3 "4 students and have them create a story or song out o$ their di$$erent $oods and recite it to the rest o$ the class. 9$ter each group has recited their story or song each student will put their egg in the healthy or unhealthy bas#et and tell the class why it is that category. &$ they get it wrong then have another student pic# which bas#et it goes in and why. :nce all the eggs are in the bas#ets have everyone return to their seats. They need a noteboo# that they can record what they eat in it. &nstruct them that they need to record what they eat every day $or a wee# and how they $elt a$ter eating it. Then at the beginning o$ ne(t wee# we will go over them and answer %uestions about the nutrients that they have consumed. Today* the teacher will help the students set up their ;ournals. The $irst page in the ;ournal should be titles 17y 6ood <iary3 or the students can create a name o$ their own $or their ;ournal. The title page should be decorated and titled with their name on the $ront page.
