Context for Learning:! 12 students (3 boys and 9 girls), ages 4-5, predominately Caucasian at 92%, and 8% African American, low socioeconomic status, urban, 6 IEPs! Function of the Lesson (check all that apply):!

Learning Objectives:!! ! ! When given a number on a piece of paper, the student will identify the number and count out the appropriate amount of manipulatives, achieving 100% accuracy.! ! Academic Language (or A.L. Demands, A.L. Objectives): ! Students will be able to use and understand: numerals 1-9 !

Students will hear the academic language during structured practice of the lesson when I am reviewing the numerals 1-9. I will show students each of the numbers on the SMART Board. Students will practice identifying numbers during guided practice and independent practice.! ! Instructional Materials and Support:! Mini Mu"ns, If You Give A Moose A Muffin by: Laura Numero#, SMART Board, laptop, SFA Teachers Manual Bread and Butter (Pages: 69-70, published by: Success for All Foundation 2012), 12 mu"ns to paint, supplies for pu#y paint (1 part glue, 4 parts shaving cream), pompoms, plastic knives or spoons! ! Prior Knowledge:! The students can count up to ten and higher with support. They have not discussed naming or identifying numbers yet. However, this is the second year for some of these students so at the end of last year they briey learned about identifying numbers. At the end of last year none of the students could identify numbers one through ve.! ! Assessments:!

Pre-Assessment for the unit: No pre-assessment will be given for this lesson.! Assessment(s) during the lesson: During guided practice students will have the opportunity to practice the skill. The students will identify the number and place that many mu"ns on the plate on the SMART Board.! Assessment(s) at the end of the lesson: During independent practice students will add blueberries or chocolate chips to the mu"n they created based on a number they were given. I will assess their ability to identify the number and count out that amount of pom-poms.! Post-Assessment for the unit: No post-assessment will be given for this lesson.! Strategies & Learning Tasks!

Introduction: (5 min.)! Gain students attention.! Pass out a mini mu"n to each student to eat.! While students are eating their mu"n, introduce the book, If You Give A Moose A Muffin! Explain to the students that when the moose gets a mu"n, he continues to ask for things. Ask students what they would ask for now that they have a mu"n.!

Presentation/Explicit Instruction: (8-10 min.)! Read the book, If You Give A Moose A Muffin. While reading ask students what they think the moose will ask for next.! Structured Practice/Exploration: (3 min.)! Review numbers 1-9 on the SMART Board! - Show each number and say what it is (For example, this is the number 1)! - Have students repeat the number! - Count the mu"ns! Guided Practice/Specic Feedback: (5-8 min.)! Explain to students that they will look at the number on the SMART Board. They will share with the class what the number is and then place that many mu"ns on the plate.! Model an example for students.! Independent Practice/Application: (10 min.)! Have students return to their seats.! Show students the mu"n that they will be making. ! Model the process! - Paint the top of the mu"n. ! - Tell students to raise their hands when nished. Explain that they are going to add blueberries or chocolate chips to their mu"ns using pom-poms. I will give them a piece of paper with a number on it. They will count out that amount of pom-poms and when they think they have it correct, I will check it. Once it has been checked, they will add them to the top of their mu"n.! - Pass out materials to each student.!

Closure:! Today we read If You Give A Moose A Muffin. There are many books that are just like this one. Encourage students to read one of the other stories like this at home.! If You Give A Mouse A Cookie If You Give A Cat A Cupcake If You Give A Pig A Pancake

Di#erentiation, Individualized Instruction, and Assessment:! For students who are performing above-average, they will be given a number greater than ve during independent practice (6-9). ! I will assist struggling students one-on-one during independent practice.! For students who are performing below-average, I will provide additional support during guided practice.!
