Lesson Essential Question: Describe the characteristics of the Romantic Period in the music, clothing, and society. Time Required: 5 Days I will differentiate by o Process o Product

As a result of this lesson/unit students will: Understand: The student will describe the musical characteristics of the Romantic Period. The student will describe the detail of the clothing and other decorative items of the Romantic Period. The student will describe the society of the Romantic Period. Know: The student will be able to teach the class about his/her selected composer. Do (Skills): The student will be able to use various resources to complete the research on his/her composer. The student will be able to use technology to complete the research. The student will be able to make a powerpoint or prezi for the presentation. The student will be able to write a summary about the composer. Pre-Assessment: Complete a K-W-L chart to access prior knowledge. Discuss as a class. Steps in the Lesson: 1. Complete the KWL chart. Discuss as a class. 2. Look at and take notes on the timeline or provide a timeline template for students who want it. 3. Listen to musical excerpts from within the interactive timeline. 4. Pick names or let students pair up. Draw the name of a composer. 5. Complete research on the composer. The student will find information for the composer timeline, life and work of the composer, and two listening examples. 6. The students will make a presentation choosing to use powerpoint, prezi, or a traditional way of presenting. 7. The students will present to the class their findings. Closure Activity/Wrap up: Finish the K-W-L chart. Post-Assessment: We will use the data to help guide future studies in the other time periods.
