instruction: Plan ahead the content you will present to the whole class. Organizing groups. This requires to considering many aspect. High and low achievers, boys and girls, exceptionalities are just a few. Planning for team study. It is important to have learning objectives so group team study is tied in with the main learning objectives. Materials are used to guide interaction that should require convergent answers. Calculating base scores and improvement points. This allows the opportunity for all students to succeed. Students are awarded for individual improvement based on past scores.

Introduction: Teach the lesson focusing on main topics and when you feel that the students have an understanding of the lesson transition to team Transition to Teams: For group work it is important that students work together effectively. By helping students understand that the group will be awarded as a whole, will give students an incentive to work together Team Study: this allows students to collaborate with their classmates and receive feedback, but it is especially important that teachers monitor groups closely. Sometimes interventions need to be made for groups that might be struggling. Recognizing Achievement: This is a big motivation. Individuals points are given by comparing improvements from the students past average. Students are given points based on their improvement number.

Assessing Understanding of Content: assessments can be given in any form. It can be in the form of a multiple choice quiz, short essay, or verbally. Assessing Group Processes: This part of assessment is more informal. Apart of assessing groups, there are five questions teachers can ask themselves. Are all members contributing? Are some members dominating? Is the group interaction positive and supportive? Do boys and girls contribute equally? Are members from different racial and ethnic groups participating and being included?

Recognizing achievement is a big motivation. When a teacher praises their students improvements, they have more confidence and motivation to do even better. Awarding points is also a big motivator. It motivates students to work with each other and boost their motivation towards doing the task at hand.

So what? What is important to understand about this?

STAD is a learning strategy that gives students the opportunity to learn in group work with improvement points which motivates the students to work together and try to improve individually.
