Garrett Wendel: Philosophy of Education

I believe that a childs education should be focused on their main learning abilities. Preparing them for the outside world making them tolerant to what is to come in the future. The way to do this is to enforce what I believe to be the main points in education which are history, math, science, and literacy. Through these basic subjects children can become more academically advanced. This to me is the most important aspect of a childs education, because children go to school to learn and they should be able to get the most out of that time not wasting it on unimportant classes. The overall purpose of education should be to build up its foundation through rigorous academic activities while providing them with a strong sense of moral and social virtue. I dont believe that education now has become obsolete it has just taken a different direction than the way I believe it should. We should be heading in an academically stronger direction. In my mind, the overall goal for students should be to attain maximum academic achievement, meaning to extract all the academic power a child has to offer, extending ones knowledge base. This extraordinary amount of learning will prepare students for the outside world. By raising the academic standards of students, they are more likely to advance in years to come taking their higher education into the workplace while hopefully providing them with an educational advantage among many people. Through this, students scholarship and college opportunities will also increase with the increased rigor, giving these students far-reading advantages over less-qualified peers in the workplaces for their future in an ever challenging economy. In the classroom I believe the teacher should be a centered guiding hand pushing children to achieve their maximum potential in regards to education. Through this I believe that teachers should provide enough adequate resources for their students to succeed meaning that teachers should have an above average knowledge of their subjects and have an upmost secular base intelligence as well. I believe that teachers should have the presence of a strong leader with maintained control of the classroom. Although the teacher should have a strong control of the classroom the teacher should also adequately involve the students in discussions and activities. Another main aspect in my philosophy of teaching is what the focus of the curriculum should be, subjects such as math, literacy, science and then the most important history. Through these strong core subjects students can reach a strong mental competence. Once an adequate source of knowledge is taken away from the core subjects then can we focus on secondary classes such as home economics and foreign languages. Overall the advent of an adequate knowledge of core classes first and then focusing on other classes should provide the student with a well-rounded education.

Through my philosophy I hope to provide students with a strong education through core curriculum classes that should provide them with an adequate base knowledge. Also through my philosophy students should be provided with enough educational resources to give them an educational advantage they can take into the real world. Through these things my philosophy should provide many students with an above average education that will benefit them in the end.
