Professional Growth Plan

As I enter in my teaching career in the field of Physical Education I have set certain goals that I plan on attaining. I have broken these goals in to two categories Short (over the first year of teaching), and Long term (over the first 5-10 years of my teaching career). First year goals are: Graduate from Arizona State University with a GPA of 3.75 or higher Take and Pass my AEPA and NES test on the first try Go on a Screening Interview for more than one School district Apply and Have a job interview with multiple schools, districts, and grade levels Get an offer that best works for me and accept that offer Start working under a head football coach at a middle or high school in order to gain experience. Be assigned to coach either the freshman or JV team. Earn my Strength Conditioning Certificate and Swim Safety Certification Start a Lacrosse team at the Junior or High School Level if a team is not already in existence.

Long-term goals are (5-10 years): To have made a difference in the lives of the young people that I have had the privilege to teach over the years. To develop and run an outdoor adventure program at my school. To still be in the physical education field in some capacity To be looking at being an Athletic Director at a middle or High School To still be coaching Football and or Lacrosse at a middle school or high school To be a strong leader in the community that I teach in and to be actively involved in many aspects of that school. To still be willing and able to learn, grow, and evolve as an educator To have earned or in school earning my Masters Degree (to help me with becoming an Athletic Director)

Through out my teaching I will look into what professional organizations I should affiliate myself with in order to build on my professional career. I know that these organizations are vital in my development in the field of teaching and coaching so it is good to look into these groups and determine which ones will provide me with the most opportunity for growth. Starting with the organization that I am already a member of which is AZ AHPERD. Also some good ones to be affiliated with would be ASU alumni association, NASPE, PE Central, Spark, and the NABC (for coaching). All these organizations offer professional growth seminars, physical education curriculum ideas, and other helpful tools I will use to further develop myself as a professional Physical Education teacher and coach.

Lastly I would like to take a few lines to highlight one of my long-term goals. This is the outdoor adventure program that I hope to have the opportunity to develop and implement in the school in which I am employed. Operation Adventure is and will be Co-founded by other educators, and will help students be exposed to different lifetime activities other then major sports. The program would/ could include such things as: team building, ropes courses, rock climbing, kayaking, white water rafting, archery, skeet shooting, hiking, camping, fishing (reel & fly), skiing (downhill & cross country), mountain biking, sailing, scuba, and surfing to name a few. The program would need a lot of organization and parent involvement, but the benefit to the students would be life-long. The program could become a class at the school, an after school club, and even a summer program that would be a week or weekend long trip to include many different activities. Since I value-educating students on how to be active for a lifetime I feel a program like this one would very beneficial to my students. I look forward to the opportunity to pursue this endeavor once I get settled into a school.
