Lesson Plan 1. Title of Book: I Show Respect by David Parker. New York: Scholastic, 2004. 2. Objective: Increase oral literacy skills, social relationship skills and responsibilities through the storytelling and acting. 3. Importance of the literacy skill: Literacy Foundation Block 1 shows that the child will develop listening and speaking skills by communication experiences and ideas through oral expression. Literacy Block 2 talks about the vocabulary that the child will develop an understanding of words and word meaning through the use of appropriate vocabulary. Literacy Foundation block 6 indicates about the written expression that the child will write using a variety of materials. 4. Age of children: This lesson plan is designed for Four to Six year-old kindergarten. It also can be used to younger kids by teaching them with appropriate curriculum. 5. Materials Needed: a. Papers b. Crayons c. Pencils d. Big Jar e. Candies 6. Strategies: a. I will read the book for the kids with jar. b. I will read only first sentence and let kids to read second sentence. (Second sentence is I show respect.) c. After kids read second sentence, I will put one candy in the jar. d. When we finish reading the book together, I will ask kids about how to show the respect. e. When kids give me some examples or tell me how to show respect, I

will put one candy in the jar each time. f. I will tell the kids that whenever kids show me respect, I will put one candy in the jar. Explain about the Respect Jar. g. When we fill the jar with candy, we will have a party. 7. Thematic Possibilities or Integration into other content areas: a. Children will sit up straight while listen to the book. (responsibilities) b. Children will discuss the importance of respect. (social studies) c. Children will discuss why they have to show respect to their friends and how should they behave. (social studies) d. Children will draw a picture of experience when they showed the respect. (art) e. Children will count candies each time when teacher puts candies in the jar. (math) 8. Assessment Children will draw a picture of showing respect to their friends, teachers, and parents. Children will explain the pictures to everyone and tell why it is important to show respect. Teacher will make a check list in order to find out that the children understand the word respect. a. ______ Child knows the meaning of respect and can explain why we have to show respect. b. ______ Child can explain the respect c. ______ Child can show the respect, but hard to explain d. ______ Child cannot explain and show the respect. Doesnt know the importance of respect. 9. Follow-up Activities for practice. a. Teacher will make lots of situations for the kids to learn how to show respect in various situations. b. Teacher will pretend a class like in public places and teach them how to show respect in public place such as theater, museum, and library. 10. Parent Follow-up a. Send home a sticker or sign sheet that to sign on the paper when kid show respect at home.
