Title: SDN using Openflow protocol/ Making the router dumb/ Establishing central ised intelligence for the

router/switches. Description: The project is based on Software Defined Networking which allows th e network administrators to manage network services through abstraction of lower level fun ctionlaity. In this approach the control plane and the data plane are decoupled literally ma king the router/switch dumb. An openflow protocol is then used for the communication purp ose b/w the control plane and the data plane. This method is found to be somewhat more advan tageous when compared to the presently used methodology. We are going to dig deeper into the subject and are willing to findout out the pros and cons of the approach and the effect of this upcoming trend on the field of networking. Questions: 1) SDN using Openflow protocol v/s traditional method 2) Pros and Cons. 3) Different algorithms used in order to form the forwarding table Aproach : Web Source Why: We are particularly interested in studying about diffent protocols and meth ods used in routing the frames. As SDN is the mostly discussed research topic in the network ing arena, we are a little bit curious in finding out how this methodolgy works. Expected outcome: We are expecting to gain deep insight in differnt routing prot ocols and diffent methodolgy used in routing the frames.
