Shelton 1 Gabrielle Shelton Tammy Davis Honors Composition II 30 April 2014 Portfolio Cover Letter Each of these essays

are from assignments given to me during my first year of college. I was given the assignments for the first few essays by my instructor for Composition I at Northeastern State University. The last essays in my portfolio are written at Northern Oklahoma College for World Literature and Composition II. The first essay is titled For My Love of Music. In this essay I have written about my experiences with violin and orchestra. Its a personal narrative and is the first essay I have written in college. With this essay I realized Im not horrible at writing, but I thoroughly dislike writing narratives and expressing my feelings and past experiences. I also realized that I dislike when assignments are given along the lines of, Express a personal experience that has changed your life and assignment topics that are similar. I feel that essays for these topics are typically inaccurate, as life experiences today may seem insignificant now, but when looking back from a future point in life, may be life-changing. The second essay I have in my portfolio is titled Misconceptions. This essay was also a narrative and was written in the same class as the previous essay. I wrote this essay about the misconceptions that people, especially students, face in school and life, and how this transforms their lives and perceptions of themselves. I enjoyed writing this essay more than the first one, but I still discovered my distaste for writing a narrative once again.

Shelton 2 The third essay in my portfolio that I have chosen is from my Psychology class at Northeastern State University. This piece is titled Religion and The Brain. This piece is an APA style review of my opinion of the development stages involving religion and how the brain works. This piece didnt require any real research, but just to make an argument based on knowledge in the textbook and classroom. I enjoyed writing this piece because it involved using some analysis of information and argumentation. The last piece I chose for my portfolio was a piece I wrote in my Composition II class at Northern Oklahoma College. This piece is titled This I Believe. Its a short narrative essay that describes an important habit in my life, which is introducing myself to people I dont know. I cant say I enjoyed writing this piece because I dislike writing about my personal life, but after writing about this I realized that its the last time I will probably get to do this and receive credit for it in a class. So, all-in-all, Im okay with this piece and the final result of the book it was placed in.
