Individual Lesson Plan Student ABC Subject/Topic: Running Record Grade Level: 2 Rationale: This lesson is important in order to determine Student ABCs just right reading level, and therefore work on improving his fluency Common Core State Standards: RF.2.4 Read with sufficient accuracy and fluency to support comprehension. a) Read grade level text with purpose and understanding. b) Read grade-level text orally with accuracy, appropriate rate, and expression. c) Use context to confirm or selfcorrect word recognition and understanding, rereading as necessary

Objective: SWBAT read a text with fluency at a just-right reading level Materials: I need: TCRWP running record assessment (level M), writing utensil Student needs: Copy of the text

Procedure: I will sit down with ABC during either reading workshop or daily 5. I will explain to him that I was so impressed with his reading skills and strategies last time we met, and that today I want him to demonstrate those skills and strategies for me again. You know what ABC? I was so impressed with your reading skills and strategies last time we met, and it had me thinking that I want to see you do more of that! So today I want you to demonstrate those skills and strategies for me again just this time it will be with a different text. Refer to TCRWP assessment; give a brief introduction of the level M text. Application/Assessment: Have ABC read the first section of the text out loud, marking miscues and errors along the way. After he is done reading out loud have him continue reading quietly to himself. Assure him that he can reread if need be. When he is finished reading, ask

Miss Tyburczy him to retell what happened in the story, then follow up with the comprehension questions that are given. After you are finished reading the first part out loud, you can continue to read the story quietly. If you feel like you need to reread the first part, then reread! There is no rush. Just like last time, after you are finished reading Im going to ask you to tell me what the story was about, and then Im going to ask you some questions. Closure: Wow, ABC! Im really proud of you and the way you read so nicely! Thank you so m uch for working with me again. Doing this with me makes you a really big help because I love getting to know you as a reader! You help me to be a better teacher! Finish filling out the assessment, be sure to circle the appropriate level on the Oral Reading Fluency Scale, and finalize his score. If level M is his just-right level, the next lesson should proceed in an I read, you read exercise in order to promote fluency.
