Date: 3-4-14(A Day)/ Campus/District: Horn HS/Mesquite ISD 3-5-14(B Day) Overall Goal of Lesson: Students will learn review tessellations and relate them to real life examples. Instructional Objectives: Students should be able to recall what they learned about tessellations and find examples in real life. Texas Essential Knowledge & Skills (TEKS) & Key Vocabulary: Tessellations ELPS: (typed out completely) TEKS: Transformations G.5.C - Use properties of transformations and their Translation compositions to make connections between Rotation mathematics and the real world, such as Reflection tessellations. ELPS: 1C use strategic learning techniques such as concept mapping, drawing, memorizing, comparing, contrasting, and reviewing to acquire basic and grade-level vocabulary; 2E use visual, contextual, and linguistic support to enhance and confirm understanding of increasingly complex and elaborated spoken language; Higher Order Questions: Which regular polygons form regular tessellations and why? Where can we find regular tessellations in real life? Student Activities: (Keep in mind the following: Scaffolding, Independent or Cooperative activities, Groupings,
Reading, Writing, Listening, Hands-On/Minds-On, Connections to previous knowledge, etc)

Students will make connections to previous knowledge, write about tessellations and how they relate to real life, and watch a video over tessellations and the work of M.C. Escher. Modifications/ELL Strategies: Anticipatory Activity for Lesson: Reviewing of previous material; Writing prompt over tessellations and M.C. Reflection: Students may not need 15 minutes to complete the writing assignment, but it will be offered to them. The same goes for the quiz. There are no notes today so hopefully the students will be able to follow along with the lesson and stay focused.
