Impact of immigrants in the United States

The United States of America is a country derived of Immigrants. Since the foundation of the United States, immigration has been an important process to the development of American culture, economy, sociology, and politics. All of these factors proved both essential and detrimental in their integration into American society. The cultural and social impact of immigration shows effects of interracial marriages and multiple languages spoken in the United States. The economical impact of immigration can be seen in the labor force, education, and amount of assistance provided through the health services given to all types of immigrants. The political impact of immigration is through fiscal and economic trends in state and federal governments and reform. All of these impacts are also affected through the struggle of the integration process with immigration. About 12% of the Population in the United States is foreign born. One century ago this percentage was about the same. Immigrants are coming mostly from Europe, South America and Asia. (Jeffrey M. Timberlake). Nowadays, how is the inflow of immigrants affecting the United States? Does it have good impact and does the government need to develop and increase benefits for immigrants? Does it have bad

impact and does the government need to decrease and limit the number of immigrants? Or may be it is just a natural process and Immigrants dont have a big impact on economy, politics of the United States? About 15% of the workforce in the United States are immigrants (documented and undocumented). Immigrants are usually working in such fields such as service, occupation, agriculture, health, and construction. (Ann Morse). They usually dont take jobs from native-born Americans, instead, Immigrants and native-born Americans are rather compliment each other than compete for the jobs. Native-born Americans and Immigrants usually have different skills and that is why they work in different fields.(Kugler) So, the inflow of Immigrants doesnt have negative impact on wages and job opportunities, it has more positive impact, because they fill the spots in Short staffed areas of work. Illegal immigrants also dont have bad impact in perspective view. When the illegal immigrants legalize, their income will increase. So they will be able to participate more in economical life, like buying cars, houses etc, in other words they will earn more and spend more. Also, the next generation of Immigrants tend to be more educated, more successful than their parents. Next generation are more adaptive to the life in The United States. Immigrants coming from all over the world bring something new to the culture and social life of the United States. That is why the culture of America is called melting pot, because it has a little bit of every culture and religion. A third of all immigrants are undocumented, they live illegally in the United States. Twenty four million of Immigrants barely speak English. They are unrooted

people, who need to reestablish their roots. (Joshua Hoyt). Immigrants usually communicate in their groups and dont communicate with Native-born Americans. Americans report that Immigrants used to be more adaptive and willing to integrate in the past than now (Jiminez ).Recent immigrants live within their communities and dont really communicate with their neighbors. And also immigrants tend to marry people within their communities. That means some of the immigrants are not willing to integrate to culture and Social life of the United States, what leads to bad impact of immigration. Undocumented immigrants usually work under the table. So it means they dont pay taxes, what have bad impact on economy of the United States. Legal immigrants who came through the Government programs such as Refugees and Asylum get the Social Help from Government: welfare, food stamps, medical insurance. Funds for these programs are being deducted from the Budget what goes from Tax department. A lot of Americans dont like this fact, that they pay taxes to sponsor the Immigrants. Legal Immigrants such Permanent Residents used to receive same social benefits along with native-born Americans, but in 1996 Government limited thir privileges, they put 5 year bar for Permanent Residents for Federally funded programs. (Ann Morse) The inflow of the immigration to the United States tend to increase and decrease. The peak of Immigration was in 1890 and it was 14.8 percent, and the average is 12%. (Joshua Hoyt). From the foundation of the United States till now Immigrants keep coming from all over the World. It became a natural process for Immigrants to integrate to the Social Capital of the United States. Even if Government limits the number of immigrants, illegal immigration then will increase, what can affect in a bad way economy

of the United States. If Government legalize all of the Illegal immigrants some of them will get to work at better job, some of them will apply for social benefits, some of them will get their education, what will lead to gaps in work-places, what these immigrants used to work. Immigration always has been taken place in the United States. It always has good and bad sides, pros and cons. There will always be different opinions about limitation and allowances for Immigrants. There are some field where immigration helps and there are some field where immigration should be limited. Government cant really limit the inflow of immigrants, so they just try to control it, manage it using some Federal Programs for Immigrants along with limitations and bars for Immigrants.
