RINA Structural Rules for Bulk Chapter 3 - Carriers Structural Design Principles Standard of material The requirements in this

Section are intended for ships of welded construction using steels having characteristics complying with the Society Rules for Materials. Materials with different characteristics may be accepted, provided their specification (manufacture, chemical composition, mechanical properties, welding, etc.) is submitted to the Society for approval. Testing of materials Materials are to be tested in compliance with the applicable requirements of Society Rules for Materials. anufacturing processes The requirements of this Section presume that welding and other cold or hot manufacturing processes are carried out in compliance with current sound wor ing practice defined in !"#S $R % and the applicable requirements of Society Rules for Materials. !n particular& ' ' ' (arent material and welding processes are to be within the limits stated for the specified type of material for which they are intended Specific preheating may be required before welding %elding or other cold or hot manufacturing processes may need to be followed by an adequate heat treatment.

!ull structural steel Tab ) gives the mechanical characteristics of steels currently used in the construction of ships. echanical properties of hull steels Steel grades for plates with t * )++ mm "010203 ",4/02,4/03,4/08,4/ ",4:02,4:03,4:08,4: ",6+02,6+03,6+08,6+ Minimum yield stress Re, , in -.mm/ /45 4)5 455 4;+ $ltimate tensile strength Rm , in -.mm/ 6++ 7 5/+ 66+ 7 59+ 6;+ 7 :4+ 5)+ 7 ::+

%here higher strength steels are to be used for hull construction, the drawings showing the scope and locations of the used place together with the type and scantlings are to be submitted for the approval of the Society. ,igher strength steels other than those indicated in Tab ) are considered by the Society on a case by case basis.

%hen steels with a minimum guaranteed yield stress Re, other than /45 -.mm/ are used on a ship, hull scantlings are to be determined by ta ing into account the material factor defined in </./=. !t is required to eep on board a plan indicating the steel types and grades adopted for the hull structures. %here steels other than those indicated in Tab ) are used, their mechanical and chemical properties, as well as any wor manship requirements or recommendations, are to be available on board together with the above plan. >isit our site to download http://goo.gl/glN4n3
