Professional Responsibilities: Ethics and Standards Practices

Standard 3.4 of the Texas ethical conduct code towards students states, The educator
shall not exclude a student from participation in a program, deny benefits to a student, or grant
an advantage to a student on the basis of race, color, gender, disability, national origin, religion,
family status, or sexual orientation. My classroom will uphold this standard of ethics as each
student will be treated equitably. My students will be held to high standards of excellence and
they will be given the means to achieve this goal. No student will be excluded from the class or
for tutorials, and no students will be given an advantage with their grades or attempts to make
successful grades. Every student in my class will be accommodated for, encouraged, and helped
along the way.
Students race, color, gender, disability, national origin, religion, family status, or sexual
orientation will not affect the opportunities that they will be given in the classroom. As students
strive to succeed, they will be pushed to excel and exceed in any program they choose to become
involved. My classroom will be a place where the students are comfortable to be themselves and
learn to have self-confidence. My classroom will have classroom management rules set in action
at the beginning of the school year. The rules will be established so that all students must show
respect for everyone in the classroom. There will be no toleration for bullying or disrespectful
behavior. Group placement will not be done by the students, but instead by me. I will create the
groups based on the strengths each student brings forth for their group, and how they interact
with each other. I, myself, will respect each student and encourage them to achieve their goals.
The students will not be granted a benefit or advantage over other students, nor will they
be held at a disadvantage or exclusion as they try to work to accomplish success in my class.
Each student will be given an opportunity to seek help, through tutorials, classroom
accommodations and any needed learning tools as a way to create an equitable and successful
classroom. My classroom will be set up in rows where I can see each student. All students will
be redirected in a respectful and equitable manner. Rules and expectations for the students will
be posted on the walls of the classrooms. During group work the students will be allowed to
move desks or move to a lab station depending on the setup. Students will constantly be
monitored as I walk around the classroom. I will manage the classroom through encouraging
students to meet expectations and redirecting them when they become off task. If the classroom
is set up differently, I will adjust by never allowing my back to face students and always
engaging them in their tasks.
