What I love in Biology

I was excited to take Biology this semester. When I took Biology in high
school, it was one of my favorite classes. I loved my teacher and the way she
taught the class. I also developed a love for science and learning in that class.
Later in High School, I decided I wanted to be a teacher. Since I loved science,
especially Biology, I decided that was the subject I wanted to teach.
At the beginning of the semester, I wasnt as interested in the material
as I was when I was in 9
th
grade. Towards the end of this semester, my
interest spiked as we began to talk about meiosis, mitosis, and genetics. I was
instantly reminded of why I loved Biology in High School. I remember how
much fun I had doing punnett squares. I figured we wouldnt be doing much
of that, but I knew we would learn about it.
I dont remember learning about Mitosis in High School, but it was one
of my favorite things to learn about. I am fascinated with the process of cells
dividing to make new cells. It is amazing to me that our body is so perfectly
trained to always be making cells, especially when we cut ourselves, and
those cells immediately begin to make new cells. I loved learning about the
cycle and what is taking place.
I was more excited when we started learning about meiosis because I
knew it would lead to genetics, which I was excited to learn about. Again, I
was fascinated with the complex process of meiosis, cells reproducing and
making duplicates. I loved learning about DNA that comes from each cell. It
was cool to learn about random fertilization, crossing over, and independent
assortment. All of this goes in to making a new human being, and that blew
my mind and was exciting to learn about. That was one of my favorite things
to learn about.
When we learned about genetics, I was excited to learn and understand
how we are created and what goes into making us the way we are. To me, it is
very interesting and exciting to learn about dominant and recessive traits,
homologous and heterozygous traits, and putting them in a punnett square. It
was interested to learn about because I have red hair, and we have no idea
where it came from. If I go back far enough, I know I can figure it out through
genetics and a punnett square.
Overall, I loved my biology class. I would love to be a biology teacher in
high school. It is a very exciting subject to learn about, and see things that you
learn happen around you. I really enjoyed Biology 1010.
