1 Identify strategies to
support inclusive
student participation
and engagement in
classroom activities.
Student participation was made inclusive where students are invited to bring in
puppets from home or use class ones to perform a puppet show in theater
corner, which is set up within the classroom. Students are free to present any
storylines they wish to enact within the setting and a roster was created to
allow all students equal participation with the resources and the classroom
activity.
4.2 Demonstrate the
capacity to organise
classroom activities and
provide clear directions.
Managing classroom activities is always going to be an ongoing process within
the classroom context. It is crucial to have strategies in place that allow the
classroom to function in a way that maintains a supportive and safe learning
environment. I believe I have applied different strategies and transitions to
ensure classroom activities run smoothly and safely. This can be linked back to
Standard 3's evidence on the mathematical lesson plan on volume.
4.3 Demonstrate
knowledge of practical
approaches to manage
challenging behaviour.
Challenging behaviour is redirected within this resource to enable positive
learning interactions and pro-social behaviour between children which is
encouraged and promoted through: sharing resources, taking turns, working
together to perform shows to audiences and taking on roles and
responsibilities. Another positive about the Theatre Corner is that the teacher
can role-play with the puppets about behaviour interactions that she may have
seen around the classroom. This is a way that the teacher can convey
messages to the students that are embedded to the performance whether
they are negative or positive is optional to the message the teacher is trying to
portray to the children.
4.4 Describe strategies
that support students
wellbeing and safety
working within school
and/or system,
curriculum and
legislative
requirements.
Maintaining student safety is paramount inside and outside of the classroom
environment. The teacher within this resource can use it to embed messages
that support students' wellbeing and safety. The advantages of role-play are
positive and enable multiple learning interactions to occur. These positive
advantages include allowing students to get fully involved in learning,
encourages self-development in students, enables students to communicate
more confidently, allows concepts to be more easily understood, provides
students with immediate reinforcement, and it reduces classroom discipline
problems (Marsh, 2010).
4.5 Demonstrate an
understanding of the
relevant issues and the
strategies available to
support the safe,
responsible and ethical
use of ICT in learning
and teaching.
In the 21st century where ICT is second nature to most people it is important
to manage it in a way that students can gain optimal use out of the resource as
well as doing it in a manner that is safe and responsibly. Teachers have an
ethical obligation to ensure all use of ICT is done whilst maintaining a
supportive and safe learning environment. Through out my practical
experience I was able to keep an ICT diary, which allowed me to write down if
there was something that came up when students were researching online
that was no appropriate for different learning areas. The classroom already
had in place a system where students would write post it notes with good
topics to research or key words that brought up lots of information on the
particular topic they were researching. I have and would continue to
implement both of these strategies into my classroom to support safe,
responsible and ethical use of ICT in learning and teaching.
