LESSON SUMMARY/OVERVIEW Provide an overview/synopsis of the lesson and the topics that it will cover. Mention the sustainability connection/lens associated with this lesson plan you are creating. For this lesson they will be acting as the butterfly in this activity and it will be having them see what happens when they go from flower to flower. they will be demonstrating pollination and how the job of a butterfly is important to the flowers.
OBJECTIVES Describe what you want students to know/be able to do as a result of the lesson. For example, Students will be able to Demonstrate being a butterfly by modeling how a butterfly helps flowers. They will see that by getting food from the flower they are being pollinators to help make more flowers.
ASSESSMENT/EVALUATION What measures will you use to know if you students met the objectives? By walking around during the activity to see if they are doing it right and by asking them questions during and after the activity to further their thinking.
PREREQUISITE KNOWLEDGE What will students need to know prior to completing this lesson and how will you access their prior knowledge? students will need to know about plants and flowers and this will be in their prior knowledge because it will be the unit before learning about this one.
MATERIALS List of required materials. 2 flower shaped papers or bowls for every kid to have at the table Yellow cotton balls Clothes pins that have a picture of a butterfly on them one for every kid. To make these you will need Cardstock butterfly Fine point markers Glitter glue, glitter, sequins, stickers, etc Clothes pins Glue (something strong enough to keep magnet attached to clothespin)
VOCABULARY/KEY WORDS List of key vocabulary terms.
Pollinators TEACHING PROCEDURES Procedural Steps (Step by step instructions for teaching the lesson): They will each get a clothes pins that looks like a butterfly. They will then have two different flower shaped paper plates or bowls on their desk one of the flowers will have yellow cotton balls in the middle and the other will be empty. I will inform the students they will need to do the important job of being a butterfly and pollinate the flowers. By doing so they will take there butterfly/cloths pin and pick up the yellow cotton balls and dropping them into an empty shaped flower bowl or paper plate. By having they do this activity it will not only show the kids the job of butterfly but it will explain to them the importance of a butterfly and how pollination is important. By letting them do this physically it shows them that they are helping create more flowers. When this activity is done we will discuss what they did and why they think butterflies are important it will also be asked what they think might happen to the flowers if butterflies were not around anymore.

WAYS OF THINKING CONNECTION Provide a complete explanation of how your lesson plan connects to futures, system, strategic, or values thinking. Define the way of thinking you selected and used in this lesson plan. Remember, this should be included meaningfully in the lesson plan. They will be using their future thinking when the question is asked what they think might happen if butterflies were gone. They will also be using values thinking when they answer why they think butterflies are important.
