Egypt. If a person can afford it, he/ she will probably go to it as their first choice. The question here is why AUC? Is it because of the quality of its education? Or are there other reasons why people prefer AUC?
In my opinion people go to AUC for different reasons other than the quality of education. According to the AUC Fact Book, there are 14 different reasons why students choose AUC, and while academic excellence is the highest rated, the 13 other reasons have nothing to do with it. In my opinion, culture highly influences students choices to enter AUC. It is even plays a bigger part in this decision than well- thought, calculated reasons.
For example, the first two reason on the list in the AUC Fact Book (indicating what the highest percentage of students say) are: The university has a good academic reputation, and AUC graduates get good jobs. Each of them indicates why 96% of the students enter AUC and why 94% of the students enter AUC respectively. The questions is, who decides that?, why do AUC graduates have better jobs than any other graduates in Egypt? It is not because they are the best graduates. Many political science professors at AUC say that Political Science (Cairo University graduates) are much stronger than AUCs political science departments graduates. Nevertheless, AUC graduates always get better jobs because of their appearance, charisma and language skills.

Another cultural reason to why people attend AUC is my parents wanted me to come AUC. I think this is the same as AUCians get better jobs. Parents want their children to go to AUC to boast that their children are at AUC. I think it is all very cultural- based. If your children go to AUC this gives you, as a family, a certain status of excelling in the standards of society.

The final cultural reason why people attend AUC is a family member attended AUC. This makes AUC sound like a legacy inherited from generation to generation, and it also gives a sense of pride, that all the family could afford to enter AUC. This puts these families into an esteemed social category.
