Mentoring children is an awesome responsibility. They look up to you and admire you. Below is what Emerald City Academy of Rhythmic Gymnastics expects of your behavior while on the job.
1. There will be absolutely no smoking on the premises. There will be no employees under the influence of drugs or alcohol while at work. 2. Vulgar language and vulgar jokes are prohibited in the presence of children, parents, visitors and your fellow employees. If you have any question in your mind whether a joke, story or comment is appropriate, assume it is inappropriate. 3. Since youll be working with children, you may be asked for a drug test at any time. 4. Bullying, abuse or demeaning treatment of a student/camper, parent, visitor or employee will not be tolerated. This includes verbal behaviors (for example, yelling or insults) and physical behaviors (for example, hitting, shoving, inappropriate touching). 5. If you observe bullying behavior, consult with ECARG management immediately to discuss ways to deal with the situation. 6. You are expected to neither engage in, nor be the object of behaviors such as those described in #1, #2, #4 and #5 above. If you encounter a student, parent, co-worker or visitor who treats you in a disrespectful, demeaning or aggressive manner, report the incident immediately to ECARG management. Do not let yourself be goaded into behavior you will regret. 7. Always use your best conservative judgment in all situations. Never go to the bathroom with a child (student, camper, visitor, etc.) even if its a preschooler who cant get their leotard on. If you must go in, keep the door wide open and have another person present as a witness. 8. Observe the Rule of Three, which means that in any private space a room, a car, etc. there should always be at least three people present at least two of whom are adults. You are never to place yourself in a situation where you are alone in the gym with a child before, during, or after hours. No exceptions. One misinterpreted statement or action could cause a lifetime of grief for you and our gym. 9. Be certain to keep a certain professional distance. There can be no socializing with the students/campers. Socializing or being alone with students/campers in an unofficial capacity is forbidden. This includes giving rides to students/campers to and from the gym. In line with this policy, you must refuse babysitting requests from customers. 10. Also, in terms a keeping professional distance, do not share your personal social media contact information (email, Facebook, phone number for texting, etc.) with students/campers or their parents/guardians. Anyone with whom you interact in a rhythmic gymnastics professional capacity is able to contact you through the ECARG email or phone numbers. 11. Do not, for any reason, give a customer (child or adult) a lesson or extra help outside the gym: in their home, at a park, at your home or at any other location. Once hired, you become an agent of Emerald City Academy of Rhythmic Gymnastics LLC. Should the person be injured under your supervision outside the gym, they or their parents may seek legal action not only against you, but also against this gym the location of the accident, and possibly other entities as well.
The above infractions will result in immediate dismissal. Additional reasons for termination of employment:
1. Dishonesty this includes lying and stealing. We consider untruthfulness about why you requested time off as lying and inaccurate time card statements as stealing money. 2. Not being reliable you are to be here regularly and on time. 3. Disregard for safety this includes blatant disregard for equipment failures, failure to promptly report safety hazards or other safety issues and refusal to get help with skills you may be lacking. 4. Being in the building during off hours without permission from ECARG management. 5. Failure to inform ECARG of any prior criminal record including arrests or employment termination due to criminal suspicion. 6. Continued negativity about company policies, gossiping about staff members, etc. after two warnings. The aforementioned is not all-inclusive. It merely represents examples of conduct that may result in discipline action or termination. Other conduct will be handled on a case-by-case basis within the discretion of ECARG management.
