Philadelphian life

Setting, How?

Context, How?
In this scene we see the
confronting violence of
mainstream America which
starkly contrasts to the
passivism of the Amish

Dramatic music and fast mid
shots implies the theme of
violence and the murder
that is taking place. The
close up of the wide eyed
Samuel also shows that he is
affected and scared by the
violence.

The close up shot of the
suspects face slammed to the
window shows his
unwillingness to be dealt in an
aggressive manner.

Ironically, he then accepts
Books apology for his honest
mistake promptly without
further questioning. It is
certain that Book, being part
of the urban society, gets used
to the violent culture.

Personal Reaction
Through the use of high
speed cutting the viewer
feels the increased tensions
and danger, with 53 shots
over a 3 min sequence
