This homework assignment involves building a groundwater flow model to dewater a square pit using 8 wells. The objective is to model steady state groundwater flow. Students must choose parameter values from a variational table to build their model dataset. They then run the model to determine the hydraulic head distribution, draw a head contour map, and determine pathlines to the wells for transit times of 1, 3, and 6 months. Sample model outputs are provided for reference.

Objective Building a steady state GW flow model using Processing Modflow v5.3.3
Task description A square shaped pit is to be dewatered using 8 wells drilled on the sides of the pit. The pit is excavated into a sandy gravel layer that is sensitive to liquification therefore the pit should be dried out before the construction is started.
There is a near surface shallow aquifer of M thickness, K permeability and N0 porosity at the site. The groundwater level is in approx. 5 m depth from the surface. The groundwater flow is from East to West direction, the representative hydraulic gradient is 1 m/km.
The pit size is X X meters, there are fully penetrating wells bored at each corners of the pit and also at the half of each pitside. The production rate of the wells on the corners is Q, and the wells on the pitsides produce 20% less.
Subtasks: 1. Building of the model dataset, all the not defined parameters can be freely chosen by the students 2. Runing the model and calculate the results 3. Determination of the Hydraulic Head distribution, drawing a contour map of it (Please save the map into a raster graphic image (BMP, JPG, etc.)) 4. Determination of pathlines to the wells for 1, 3 and 6 months transit time. (Please save the pathlines into a raster graphic images (BMP, JPG, etc.))
Variational table Each student must choose one dataset from the 15 choices
