1: Pg. 86- Explain how a kernel of corn will be broken down into its various parts.

They go
through wet mills were each part of the kernel of corn. The skin is broken for vitamins, and other
parts changed into sugars for supplementing other products.
2: Pg. 86- What are some of the names of compounds that are in products that are made from
corn? The names are glucose, fructose, maltodextrin, ethanol, sorbitol, and other compounds.
3: Pg. 88- it takes about five gallons to process a bushel of corn, and prodigious amounts of
energy. Wet milling is an energy-intensive way to make food; for every calorie of processed
food it produces, another ten calories of fossil fuel energy are burned.

growth of more corn and changed glucose into a more valuable fructose.

we do not let nature let the food to spoil.

Cheese Wiz, Margarine, Whipped Cream with Cool Whip. It is not very suprising.
7: Pg. 93- How much does it take to make a box of cereal? How much is it sold for? It takes 4
cents of corn, but the cereal box is sold for 4 dollars.
8: Pg. 94- What is the average growth rate of Americans? What does it mean by fixed stomach
and how does this relate to profits? The average growth rate always grows. Fixed stomach is
when humans can only eat a specific amount of food. The food and money is wasted and nothing
is gained.
9: Pg. 94- How many pounds of food does the average American eat per year? About 15000
pounds of food.
10: Pg. 94- Theres money to be made in food, unless youre trying to grow it- explain this
statement. The farming community do not gain as much profit as they could.
11: Pg. 97- Explain what the author means by, getting more fruits and vegetables into food.
The processing of food are putting the nutrients of fruits and vegetables instead of using regular
fruits and vegetables.
12: Pg. 98- Does natural raspberry flavor mean that the flavoring is actually raspberry or even
natural? Explain. It does not mean either because they are made of substances from other foods
put into one.
13: Pg. 98- What is resistant starch and how does it get around the biological limit on how much
you eat in a year? It has corn starch that is indigestible. It gets around by not being able to be
detected by the body.
