I do, the two words that seal a promise to a most sacred vow, can be the most
challenging two little words to utter. It is the start to a life with your companion and a start to an
exciting life of marriage. What is marriage? According to Websters Dictionary, marriage is the
relationship that exists between husband and wife (126). However, marriage has a much deeper
connotation than the definition perceives it to be. While most people see marriage as a
commitment to their partner, marriage is much more than that; its a vow to stay faithful
with someone you love and to accomplish and fail all your greatest ambitions with.
Marriage is a commitment of one partner to his/her spouse. Its an on-going effort to
work as a team instead of an individual. Not only does a couple need to learn to raise a family
together and meet the daily demands of life together, but they also must learn to live together. A
commitment to appreciate every little quirk and trait about his/her spouse is essential; its the
fuel that keeps a marriage full of light. Commitment in marriage can be interpreted in several
different ways. For an overall view, commitment is a will to always put effort into a marriage.
Marriage is a vow to always stay faithful to his/her spouse. When one recites those two
little words, it is a promise to always stay faithful. Having faith for the future and present lives
between a couple. The desire to break this promise is nonexistent in a marriage. In a true
marriage, the love shown between one another is much more powerful than any lustful eye.
Staying loyal comes effortlessly. With faith comes the acceptance of failure and success.
Marriage is the ability to be successful and fail without any insecurities. A couple should
be best friends and they should accept their partner at their best and their worst. Marriage is
when a partner can pick their spouse up when they fall and stand tall with them when they
succeed. At best, marriage can be described when two people who love each other bring out the
utmost best in one another.
Although marriage might be perceived as just a commitment to their partner, marriage
involves much more than that. It involves a total commitment of their faith and heart. Although
the controversies involving the definition of marriage are sufficient, marriage isnt just about two
people expressing their love; its about two people using their love to battle any obstacles that
come their way. As James C. Dobson states, Dont marry the person you think you can live
with; marry only the individual you think you can't live without. Marriage is just as he stated,
the commitment to stay faithful through failure and success.
