E Major Chorale Assignment No. 2 (Phrase No.

2)

Instructions: Write between 3-5 complete bass lines for this chorale tune and add an analysis of the counterpoint formed between
each bass line and the soprano. Write NO roman numerals on this assignment, though you should have roman numerals in mind at the
cadence and beginning of the phrase. I have provided several possible notes in the bass; you may use any of these possibilities and no
others! Analyze all dissonances (using circles and parentheses), and for essential dissonances, circle the tones whose resolution is
"bound" and draw arrows showing the resolution of these tones. I would prefer that you erase nothing, though minimal erasing is
acceptable. I have provided extra staves for your practice. When you have finished, please put a star next to the 3-5 bass lines that you
are submitting, and circle the star that you think is your best bass line.
Note: This phrase cadences in B Major. You can start including notes from the B Major scale (by adding an A#) and tonic
expansions in B Major as early as you would like, though you are not required to do so.
