School Assembly
This week's school assembly is on
storybook characters. Children may dress
up like a character on Thursday. (You
might want to bring a change of clothes for
the rest of the day.) Costumes can be as
simple as a hat or a small picture of your
character pinned to your shirt. Have fun!

Supply List
Reading: We will begin our Guided Reading
groups this week. Remember that these groups
are flexible, and students move up in levels at
the speed that is most effective for them. We
will take a Scholastic Reading Inventory test to
determine reading level. Watch for the Guided
Reading books to start coming home. These
should be read by the student on the night they
come home and sent back to school the next
day. We will set expectations for guided
reading time.
Language Arts: Our skills focus this
week will be identifying character
traits, recognizing key details, and use
of punctuation in text. We will also be
working on expectations for literacy
time.
Math: We will begin Unit 1 of
Investigations Math this week. Were
establishing math time expectations,
exploring math tools, learning to use a
number line; reviewing the +, -, =, <, and
> symbols; using a hundred chart; and
working on telling time to the nearest
hour.
Science: We will be learning about
gravity, push and pull, and simple
machines like lever and inclined plane.
Social Studies: This week we will be
focusing on promoting the common good
in different communities. We will also
be learning how to solve a dispute
peacefully to maintain peace in our
community. Setting our classroom
expectations will help us to prevent
disturbing peace in our classroom
community.
Spelling: There are 5 Unit 1 words to
practice this week:
