Being Accepted in Society is Difficult
My Life in Pink is about Ludovic, a seven year old boy, who believes he is a girl. Basically,
Ludo was a transgender girl, who was forced by his society to be a boy. His family found it
somewhat humorous when he would dress up as a girl. They believed he was in search of his
identity and that it was only temporary. However, this situation brought many problems not only
to his life, but the life of his family. Ludo was rejected by his family and by their neighbors who
shunned them out. Innocent Ludo suffered as he watched his family struggle to accept his true
gender. Therefore, the theme of My Life in Pink is to accept those who are different from you,
especially if they are your child because that is why the family encountered many problems.
A key moment that struck me as significant was when Ludo stole the part of Snow White
from a female classmate in a school play because that seemed like a turning point in the film.
Ludo was attracted to Jerome, his fathers bosss son who was playing the prince that kisses Snow
White in the play. All the parents became shocked as it was revealed that Ludo was dressed as
Snow White waiting to be kissed by Jerome. They stood up one by one with bewildered and
horrified faces. As their family walked out of the school, they were given looks of disgust and
shunned out by their neighbors. Nobody talked to them, but they were starred at the entire way out
of the school. The neighbors all gathered together away from Ludos family as if they had some
weird disease. This made Ludos family isolated from society because they were not accepted.
Their neighborhood was really judgmental which made their family miserable that society was
picking on Ludo. All the rejection made Ludo want to commit suicide. Society made a little seven

year old wish he was dead just because he was different from others. No one is exactly the same,
so society needs to understand that it is better to accept those who are different because it doesnt
bring any negative consequences.
After Ludos family moves away to a new neighborhood, he befriends a transgender boy
named Christine or Chris. At Chriss birthday party, Ludo and Chris exchange costumes; Ludo
wore a female costume and Chris wore a male costume. This caused Ludos mother to react by
hitting Ludo. Ludo ran to a billboard of Pam, a Barbie-like character. The next scene seemed like a
fairytale dream. Ludos mother saw Ludo running away with Pam. He told his mother that he
wouldnt give him any problems and leave. This made Ludos mother realize that she was losing
her little baby. This dream contained many special effects because it seemed as if Ludo entered the
billboard running away to a place that looked like heaven. As Ludos mom awoke from the dream,
he was glad to know Ludo was okay. Her dream made her realize that it didnt matter what or who
her child wanted to be, she just didnt want to lose Ludo from her life. The entire family would
rather accept him than lose him. Unlike their old neighbors, they had a powerful reason to learn to
accept who Ludo really was. They were his family that was supposed to love him unconditionally.
By just accepting those who are different from yourself can make a big difference in
society or just in your own family. In My Life in Pink it portrays an innocent seven year old boy
who knows he was supposed to be a girl instead of a boy. Many others, children and adults, are
going through the same situation, yet society wont accept them because they think they have
problems. Society always believes those who are different are mentally ill. However, that is not
the case. This film made me realize what transgender children might be going through and its a
saddening situation. The feel as if they are in the wrong body and therefore, they dont enjoy their
childhood because they are confused and unhappy. By accepting those who are transgender can
make society a more positive place to live in for everyone.
