Lesson plan 4

Date: November 11 Level: Second year of high school

Skill: Reading

Expected Outcomes: Students will be able to identify general and specific information in order to answer some
comprehension questions.

Resources: board, markers, printed texts, crossword puzzles.

Introduction

Classroom setting 5’ Students arrive at the classroom and have to look for their aprons and put them
on.

Take roll call 5’

Objectives Presentation 3’ Students will be told what the class is going to be about, what they will do and
what the main objectives of the lesson are.

Core of the class

Review 5’ Students will be asked to talk about what they learned the previous session in
order to teach the next content and relate it with the previous knowledge.

Reading: “Michael
Jordan” (superlatives)

 Pre-reading:
-Previous knowledge. 10’ Students will be asked what they know about Michael Jordan, his job, age, etc.

 While-reading:
-Vocabulary check. 7’ The text will be first read aloud by the teacher in order students can be aware of
pronunciation. In this part students will have to look for unknown words in order to
check them later on the board.

Vocabulary 5’ Explanation of unknown words related to the text by setting examples and
sentences.

5’ Students will be given some questions and statements they will have to answer
after reading the text.

Activity correction 15’ Students will be given the opportunity to read the text again in silence in order to
underline all the superlative forms and to get a better comprehension of it; they
will have to look for general and specific information in order to answer some
questions.

 Post-reading
-Comprehension check. 10’ Students will be asked to write their answers for the comprehension questions on
the board in order to be corrected. Some of them will be evaluated for their work
on the exercises with a “summative” grade that at the end of the semester will be
another grade.

Homework 5’ Students will have to write a short paragraph about someone interesting or
important to them, for example: a singer, an actor, a member of their family, etc.

Closing

Crossword 10’ Students will be given a crossword puzzle about comparatives and superlatives to
work in pairs.

Crossword check 5’ The crossword puzzle will be check on the board by the students.
