Jim White 5 Year Professional Development Plan

This educator is a life-long learner. Developing skills and increasing knowledge and
experience is a way of life and there is always something taking place that applies to
professional development. The primary goal for the next five years are to develop a
strong curriculum in each of the courses taught and increase the available resources for
teaching. Courses include Orchestra, Music Theory, Piano, Electronic Music
Composition, Recording Arts, and Pop Band. Several of these courses are unique to the
school teach so there are no template from which to work.
Year One & Two
BTSA, Arts Schools etwor! "onference, "#rric#l#m Development
The five-year plan starts with Beginning Teacher Support and Assessment Program
(BTSA). I have been a full time teacher first under the Provisional Internship Permit
(PIP) and my 2
nd
year with a CA Internship Credential. Upon completion of my Masters
of Education and Single Subject Credential work, I will work with a Preliminary
Credential until the BTSA requirements are completed. Research and discussions with
those in the BTSA program lead me to believe that it takes a fair amount of time and
therefore would not be wise to include more education.
The school principal sends each Visual and Performing Arts teacher to a conference for
collaboration and connection with other arts schools called the Arts Schools Network
Conference. The arts teachers trade years so that we attend the conference every other
year. At the school, teachers are required to have a certain number of hours of continuing
education, conferences like this qualify to meet those hours but BTSA does as well.
