In terms of the economic angle of nuclear power it is the best energy source.

Capital cost aside, the

cheapest energy source is renewable energy, but with capital costs included the cheapest form of
energy is nuclear power. The capital cost of a new power plant may be upwards of $500 million, but the
operation and maintenance costs are the cheapest in all of the major power producing methods. On
average it costs between $1-3 per mWh of energy produced when using a nuclear fuel source. With
operations and maintenance costs included nuclear power on average costs $8.70/mWh produced.
Nuclear power, as well as being extremely affordable, is also the most efficient form of energy that is
currently used. Nuclear energy is upwards of 90% efficient, the next best efficiency is coal, at 87%. 3%
may be a small number, but at the price of coal compared to the price of uranium, the overall cost is
much higher when using coal, our current method of energy production. It requires very little uranium
to make a large amount of energy, whereas it requires large amounts of coal to create energy. Nuclear
power is the least expensive power source as well as the most efficient. It makes no sense to pay more
for energy than we need to. We need to look at nuclear power as a viable alternative to natural gas and
coal power.
