Integrate strategies that support diversity and anti-bias perspectives
I will integrate strategies that support diversity and anti-bias perspective. I will do this by respecting and attempting to implement the culture of all the children. I will let go of my beliefs and realize there are different beliefs and ways of doing things other than my own. I will also realize that a childs culture has a big impact on the childs development.
2. Analyze development of infants and toddlers (conception to three years) I will analyze development of infants and toddlers. I will know attachment to me and others is an important development in children. There are many ways to screen children but the most important part is to observe childrens natural behavior and develop relationships with them. Infants and toddlers learning in the early years builds the stepping stones for children physical and mental abilities. 3. Correlate prenatal conditions with development The way a mother treats her body during pregnancy effects infants in many ways. Lack of adequate nutrition can starve the brain and the body of infants. Habits such as smoking and drinking can to low birth rate, fetal alcohol syndrome, and can go through withdrawals. A mother receiving adequate nutrition and takes care of herself is most likely going to have a happy healthy baby. 4. Summarize child development theories Domains of childrens development physical, social, emotional, and cognitive are closely related. Development in one domain influences and is influenced by development in other domains. Attachment has a place in all theories of child development. All children attach to something as well as feel the need to be attached. There are many child development theories. Erik Eriksons used psychosocial approach. His first stage was trust vs. mistrust. Piagets focus was on cognitive development. His first stage was sensorimotor in which children used their senses to tackle problems. B.F Skinner s development and learning from this perspective are attributed almost exclusively to environmental influences 5. Analyze the role of heredity and the environment A childs heredity effects then because that is now part of their culture. It also creates pathways for future health. A childs environment is very important. Children need stimulation. Without proper stimulation a infant can act out or shut down all together
6. Examine culturally and developmentally appropriate environments for infants and toddlers. A culturally and developmentally appropriate environment for infants and toddlers is a place they feel safe and respected. It is an environment that makes strides to include all of the children cultures and prepares curriculum that is age appropriate and purposeful. 7. examine the role of brain development in early learning The brain grows exponentially in the first year of life. In the first year your neurons are making millions of connections. The environment that engages children will build stronger circuits than a environment in which the child does not get engaged will not build strong connections.
8.examine caregiver routines as curriculum Infant need personalized care routines that tend to their needs for eating, sleeping, and diapering. These routines must me appropriate in following state standards and the children needs. These are tools that you use in order to establish connections to the child and start curriculum.
