Meeting with ESL teacher (Janet Skelly) 9-10am; Assessment administered 1:45-2pm
*Review and assessment of materials to be used in Helens needs assessment. All materials
approved and the decision was made to meet with Helen from 1:45-2:30 pm (same day) to
complete assessment. Speaking assessment given at end of 9am meeting.
April 22, 2014
Meeting with Helen and Mrs. Skelly 9-9:30am. Reviewed Helens results and discussed her
goals and thanked Helen for helping with the project. Good social language noted.
April 24, 2014
Meeting with Mrs. Skelly 9-10am.
Mrs. Skelly loaned me an assessment book from her own training. We discussed what type of
lessons to teach to Helen and the school schedule and set a tentative schedule for the teaching.
We decided that I would write my own reading comprehension questions based on a passage to
customize the experience for Helen. I am confident in her ability to pull facts from reading so I
am aiming to help her make connections and correctly choose implied meaning. We also decide
to focus on phonemes for the lesson for listening.
The teaching schedule will be as follows: Lessons plans are still under development.
