Postproduction feedback
It was very vital and significant that I presented all my interview to my target audience after
I edited them as I wanted feedback, it was very important for me to know what my client
thought of my final work as I also wanted to find out if I met the needs and expectations. All
my interviews were presented in various formats and this was mainly to show diversity and
interview skills to the viewers.
Interview1
This first interview was about the topic of binge drinking. I was given a brief by my client and
my task was to make young people aware of its dangers and to provide information that will
persuade or encourage them to stop consuming excessive amount of alcohol. In addition to
that, after all the research, preparation and editing, I submitted my final interview to my
client and I got more positive feedback than negative. The client thought that I had good
interview skills, my clarity of voice was good, and the subject of the interview was
interesting and also said that the fact that I interviewed a dentist made my interview look
professional. And on the other hand the client thought that the interview was quite long, it
could have been more interactive and some aspects of it were boring. In general, the client
thought that I produced an excellent piece of work because it was efficient and I feel filled
my goal. Another reason was because I was interviewing the interviewee using formal
language, which signified that the topic was serious, and therefore meant that the target
audience will take the whole interview seriously as well.
Interview 2
My second interview was about Britain teenagers being unhappiest in the world. I was also
given a brief to follow by my client. My task was to find out if really British youth are the
unhappiest in the world. The codes and conventions I had to follow was that I was to
produce my idea in a formal style (hard news) I looked at other interview formats to assist
me in providing my client with what they were expecting.
When I eventually presented it to the client, they thought it was visually more interesting in
comparison to my first interview, the topic in the interview related to what was going on in
society, they liked the fact that I used both young and old generation; a young person will
attract a younger audience and the old person will attract an older audience, further more,
people understood what I was talking about in the interview. The style of this interview was
hard news, it was supposed to be serious and engaged, which the client said I did manage to
accomplish. However, the client also though that the interview was long, it could have been
shorter and effective, they also suggested that it could have been more interactive. And
some parts when the teenager in the interview was talking about her past depressed life I
could have had a flash back or had people act out what she was saying in order to show
creativity and make the inter view visually interesting.
For this particular interview I planned to have a dress code, reasons being that it was hard
news type of interview. In news programs such as channel five news or channel 4, the
presenters always dress smart and formal. And that is what I also wanted to portray in this
interview.
Interview 3
I was also provided with a clients brief, which I had to follow in order to produce a standard
idea that would reach the clients needs and expectations. I was briefed to create an idea
that followed the codes and conventions of This morning style. After all the preparation
and editing, I finally presented my finished product to the client. For this particular
interview, I received mixed views. The client said that although it was the right interview
format, it lacked creativity. They suggested that it would have been more interesting if it
were creative. And they also thought that one of my interviewees was left out in the
interview and therefore I came off the off a bit as in this morning the interviewees are
involved in the conversation and they arent left out. The client continued to say that the
beginning of the interview was more engaging and they found the rest of the interview
boring. However, on the other the client thought that I performed good research and I
asked relevant questions. Overall the interview was fairly good. The client suggested that in
order to get the interview to a better standard, I would need to make the adjustments they
mentioned. The structure in this interview was very simple, I was sitting on the same table
as my guests and the aim was to discuss the interview topic amongst us. I used a single
camera production; the camera a man was filming, using a mid camera shot only. As I
wanted my interview to have the same qualities as This morning however the only
difference was that in their interviews, they have VTs, which makes their shows a bit more
interesting. Perhaps I should have also included them in my interviews as it could have been
a good creative way to keep my audience engaged more engaged when watching.
In some areas of my interviews I was saying erms and ums which I had to cut out,
perhaps I should have performed more research in order to avoid saying those words as it
showed unprofessionalism. In all my interviews, was sitting down and that showed no
creativity. It was boring to watch, as my target audience were youth so they needed to be
engage and I wasnt able to full-fill that. In comparison to all my interviews, I think that
interview 2 had the best structure; it looked the most entertaining as I had several camera
angles in use, I n addition to that, I was interviewing two interviewees, made the interview
more interactive and interesting for the audience to watch. I also think that keeping
interviews short but effective could have been better because interviews were longer than
they should have been.
I think that the presenting style in which I interviewed my guests was at a good standard as
my client mentioned. I had good interview skills and because of that, when watching the
interviews you can see that my interviewees look comfortable, relaxed and feel at ease
when answering questions, and are free to say whatever they want. Further more. When
watching my interviews I appeared to be confident which is good as it illustrates that I did
my research and knew what I was talking about, which then lead my interviewee into taking
me seriously. I didnt face any technical difficulties when I was editing my interview
footages, I edited it in final cut pro, which made it easier to cut out the parts in my
interviews that I didnt need, and add in background music and images in order to make my
interviews look visually interesting and also add an element of creativity. Overall, the quality
of my interview was standard as you could be able to hear and watch the interviews clearly
with no obstacles. However when at some point, my interviews failed to upload so I had to
re-upload them, Which consumed time and meant that I wasnt going to give them in on
time and therefore I missed my deadline once and my client wasnt impressed.
Networking feedback
Networking feedback was almost the same as my focus group. Collecting feedback from
social networks such as YouTube face book and twitter was another way of getting
constructive criticism from my target audience. They thought that my interviews were
boring; they werent as creative as they had expected them to be. They also stated that they
wouldnt sit down for more than 5 minutes to watch an interview so therefore they suggest
the interview would have been better short and had to think about cutting the down as they
were too long.
Camera angles/shot
The usage if several camera angle and shots I believe would have made my whole interview
production look more visually interesting however I only used two main camera shots for
example a close-up camera shot was used in all my interviews, it was used because I
wanted the audience to get a clear view of both the interviewer and interviewee. A close up
camera shot reveals things such as facial expressions and tightly frames a person. I also
decide to use this type of camera because it displays more detail. Another camera shot that
was common in all my interviews was the mid- close up shot; this also shows the face more
clearly without getting uncomfortably close. I also wanted to include other camera angles
such as eyelevel camera angel, point of view camera angle. It wasnt in my original plan so I
decide not to use them as they didnt suite my interview format.

Pre-production process
Before I presented my final interview to my focus group, I initially had to go through a long
process of pre-production, which included things such as my preparation, rehearsal, and
time management.
Preparation
This was a very significant element during the process of interviewing my guests. Firstly, in
order to create an efficient interview I had to make sure that my interview plan was well
organised and structured to a good standard. Main reason why that had to be done was
because when interviewing a person, you need to be professional when doing so. And
having a well - conducted plan prepared me to be more confident when interviewing.
Preparation for my interview also included performing some research; both secondary and
primary for example, in my first interview, which was about binge drinking I wanted to find
out how much alcohol teenagers consume so I gathered a focus group and I collected the
statistics that I needed. I did this because I wanted to have more knowledge on the topics in
all my interviews. However, when I was researching I found some difficulties finding the
appropriate information that related to my interviews. I had to research more in depth to
make sure that the information I was going to use was reliable especially when it is
secondary research, as some information that might be provided may not be suited for your
topic, so therefore it is important to find suitable websites.
Rehearsals
Before every interview I filmed, I had to make sure that I rehearsed; I did this because
rehearsing prepared me to produce a well detailed and conducted interview, for example
when I was rehearsing I discovered that I needed to change my script around and also
practise active listening, asking the right questions is very significant in an interview as that
the only way you can gather the information you are looking for. So therefore I order to
accomplish that asking developmental questions and building bridges comes in handy.
Another key element that I discovered when rehearsing is that making the guests feel
comfortable and relaxed is also very important as this is also another way you can make
them provide you with informative data because they feel at ease to say whatever they
want to. In addition to that creating a professional atmosphere is a main key fact when
interview as it will assist you in creating a professional interview.
Time management
Time management became very important when I was going to perform my interviews. I
made sure that I scheduled dates when I was free as well as my interviewees. I did this
because I thought that interviewing during our free time was most convenient for both the
interview and interviewer. I interviewed a dentist in my first interview about binge drinking
so therefore he had to tell me what would be the best time for him to be interview as he
was busy. When he did tell me the day time and date I had to make sure that I arrived at the
dental clinic on time otherwise I wouldnt have been able to interview him if was late. I
filmed all my interview introductions in the green room. This signifies that I had to book it. I
had to make sure that it werent in use when I booked it and I also had to make sure that I
was through with using it within the time limit I was given as other people would have
wanted to use it as well.
Preproduction had both negative and positive impacts on my all my interviews, I sometimes
spent more time planning than actually filming what I planned. So over planning consumed
my time a little bit. And also I also spent time filming and sometimes the quality wasnt
standard so I had to film the footage again, which cut my editing time short. This suggested
that I had to rush editing in order to present my final product in on time for marking.
I decided to film my interviews with a single camera production this is because it was easier
and quicker to operate. However when it came to editing, I found it was quite challenging as
I only had one camera angel to work with. Using on camera production limited my options.
For example in some parts of my interview, various camera shots and angels where needed,
I wanted to use an extreme close-up shot, medium shot and long shot, and I didnt have
them, so had no choice but to use the transformation tool on final cut pro where I was
editing my footage from order to cut to different camera shots. Doing so made a significant
change to my work; it looked visually interesting. In addition to that, I think that using a
multi camera production would have been better to film with as I would a more footage
choices to choose from, however it would have been longer to set up, it would have been
more time consuming, which I didnt have. In my first interview, I originally wanted to
interview a dentist and a binge drinker but I decided to only interview the dentist in the end,
however I felt that this decision wasnt the best as I thought my interview would have been
more interactive if it had several interviewees in it.
Target audience
All my interviews are aimed at young people, reason being that I thought they would have
been more interested in the interview formats and the style the interviews were presented
in would appeal to them more. My interviews differed from one another. They all had
interesting aspects to them that attracted to the target audience. For instance in my third
interview, the introduction was the most intriguing part, it captured the most attention and
I could tell that because the target audience wanted to continue watching.
My first interview, which a got a distinction level in seemed to have caught the most
attention, my original concept was to persuade the target audience to stop binge drinking.
And he only way I could do so was by using factual information. So I decide to interview and
actual dentist, who captured more attention from the audience. I think that the seriousness
of the topic with in the interview appealed to the audience as I was asking questions they
would like to know answers to.
Comparison to other shows
In order for me to produce efficient interviews, I had to commit some research on existing
interviews such as this morning, the graham show, the chatty man show, channel five news
and channel four news. I did this because I wanted to find out interview techniques that
presenters on the shows and news use. Most importantly, I wanted to emulate their style
and format in my own interviews and the only way I could do so was to observe their
interview skills, the setting and structures of their shows.
In comparison to This morning My third interview, which was about cutting benefits for
students that dont pass their GCSEs, had a similar structure, style and setting. My aim was
to sit down with the guests and discuss the interview topic together, which I think I
managed to do as in this morning they do the same thing. Although this morning consisted
of things such video-tapes, there really wasnt a significant difference. My interview
presentation was as nearly as good as this morning even thought ii had face mina setbacks
during the process of interviewing, especially when I was trying to construct a similar
format, which didnt quite work out as I had hoped. On the other hand both my interview
and the show had the same introduction.
In comparison to the channel 4 or channel five news my second interview, which was about
British teenager being the unhappiest in the world also had a similar structure and format.
When present new, presenters look serious and are dressed very formally. Their clarity of
voice is very clear and they present in a very formal manor and look straight in to the
camera when doing do, perhaps this a good way of connecting with the audience. When I
was presenting my interview I tried my hardest to emulate this. I included video tapes in my
presentation in order to add an interesting factor; I was dressed appropriately for my
interview as I wanted my audience to take me seriously and I also think that the setting of
my interview looked very professional, it was very news like so therefore I think that in the
this aspect I was very successful in emulating a similar setting as channel 4 and channel 5
news.
When it comes to my presenting skills, I think I delivered an excellent job as my target
audience said, I was very confident; the questions I asked were good, the interview
atmosphere was professional. However the only thing that let me down in some of my
interviews was the lack of creativity. In comparison presenters in other shows, their
interviews are more entertaining and fulfil their target audience expectations, which I think I
failed to do.
Legal constraints
I interviewed my interviews indoors, for example I interviewed the dentist at the dental
clinic. Although it was a private place, I still needed permission to film from there. I firstly
contacted the dentist and asked him if it was okay for me to film him in the room where he
treats people, unfortunately he said no as the dental room had a lot of equipment and it
would have been against health and safety. He said it would be better if we filmed the
interview in a more spacious room. So we ended up filming the interview in other room. I
originally wanted to film a dental room because it would have been a better environment as
it would have been more effective to the viewer in terms of visuals.
In addition to that, I film second at home as I had originally planned. I thought the setting of
a home would suite my interview best. However I also had to ask for permission, I had to ask
the interviewee it was alright for me to perform the interview at their house and fortunately
they said yes.
I didnt need to film in public place as I didnt plan to. However if I had to, I would have
needed to contact the local council and ask them for permission otherwise it would have
been again the low to film in public places without being authorise. Being authorised by the
councils will prevent things like getting arrested for breaking the low or getting fined. And
also just in case of any accident that may occur during filming for instance car accident, it is
your responsibility to make sure that everyone that is involved in the filming is safe.
Proposal 1
I wanted my client to take my work and ideas seriously and at the same time I also wanted to
convince them that I am capable of producing a campaign based on the brief they gave me that they
would be satisfied with. So therefore I created a proposal, I hoped would persuade the client into
thinking that my concept was great.
How does drinking excessive amounts of alcohol/ binge drinking affect you health?
This proposal will be in an investigative format. This is because I will be interviewing several different
health consultants e.g. Alcohol nurse specialists, Dentists, Health and Social teachers, and even the
police. This is because I want to gather information from accurate sources. And this will be able to
help me with producing an effect full product at the end.
Alcohol plays a dangerous role in young peoples lives. During the teenage age from age 16 18
young people like to experiment and yet this is a delicate stage of developing as the body system
rapidly changes, which therefore puts the health at an even higher risk of alcohol damage. The
majority of young people are oblivious about how alcohol could negatively affect their health. I
personally think that this is because they are not educated enough about the threats of over
consuming alcohol. Alcohol kills 22,000 people each year in Britain. Young people need to know this
because alcohol is to blame; it is the reason why every year a number of young people have health
problems and most times long term health risks, which are made without any acknowledgement.
And this is because young people arent aware of how serious alcohol really is. Perhaps some of
them know but dont really carer because they drink heavily with the intention of getting drunk,
which is every time they drink, which is dangerous for their teenage bodies as they arent fully
developed yet. However it is never too late. So therefore with this proposal, a change can still be
made . Binge drinking affects the health in so many ways, which include:
The teenage body and brain
Teeth
The liver
Weight again
Teenage body and brain
The body and brain of teens is still developing so drinking alcohol before the age of 21 can cause
irreversible brain damage, alcohol could become a serious issue in the future if teenage binge
drinker isnt care full, first and fore most alcohol is very addictive and if taken excessively, it can
damage the most delicate organs of the body which is the brain and the skin. Alcohol can easily
wrinkle the skin and makes it young adults look older than they actually are. Above all, when alcohol
affects the brain it causes things such as: difficulty walking, blurred, vision, slurred speech etc. Binge
drinker often experience blackouts, this is because they drink way too much and too quickly, which
causes their blood alcohol levels to rise very quickly and college students are at risk particularly for
facing blackouts, as a high number of college students are involved in binge drinking.

Teeth
I researched an Aussie dentist (DR Christopher Ho) who talks about the harm alcohol brings on the
teeth as people especially teenagers who binge drink neglect this import fact,
Alcohol contains acids, which eats away at teeth and most teenagers are UN aware of this effect,
alcohol dehydrates and when youre dehydrated you dont have a lot of saliva in your mouth. In this
saliva, there is anti agents which kill acid, but when people are dehydrated these agents disappears,
and so it is more decay and erosion and it is even worse if the person is a binge drinker. Teenagers
need to know this important fact because I believe that they all care about their appearances
As I was research, I came
across this website, which
provides information about
other causes of brain
damage. It was interesting
but however irrelevant to
my work.
especially when it comes to their teeth, as nobody wants to have decayed looking teeth. When you
consume a big amount alcohol at same time, you are bound to feel sick, as most times the digestive
isnt able to digest is. So therefore this may lead to you to actually throw the rest back up (vomit)
and if this happens, you will have problems with acid reflux; you will have teeth being slowly wear
away because of the acid coming out of your mouth.
The liver
A large amount of heavy drinkers develop serious alcohol liver disease. And this arises from the
excessive consumption of alcohol, this is a very serious condition that over 6,000 people in the UK
suffer from and teenage binge drinker should take caution when it comes to binge drinking.
Weight again
Alcohol contains a massive amount of sugar. And when you consume more calories than your body
needs, you will gain weight. It is debatable whether teenage binge drinkers know this or not. The
body needs a specific number of calories to maintain your weight. And this need is based on your
height, weight, and age and activity level. I personally suggest that informing teenagers about how
much weight they will be caused to gain due to excessive drinking will be a n important concept and
many teenagers in the UK are self conscious about their appearance and weight gaining is one of
many problems they face as they grow. They should know and process that alcohol can lead to
weight again, from all the calories it provides and by causing you to eat more calories after
consuming the alcohol.
Budget
Equipment Cost
Camera Rented from the college (free)
Tripod Rented from college (free)
Green room Rented from college (free)
Studio lighting Rented from college (free)
Studio Rented college (free)
All the equipment above I booked them from the college. However in reality to rent such
equipment would be costly for insistence to book a camera would be 50 per hour from E home so I
decided to use the college equipment as they were free to use.
Script
I also had to create a script to my interview in order to be reminded on what to when interviewing.
Creating a script shows a sense of being organised and I wanted my client to see that Im well
organised and prepared.

Storyboard
Following codes and conventions is a very significant element when story boarding. I tried to portray
what type of interview style and structure I was planning to create through my story board, so
therefore I had to make sure that my storyboard set up according to plan.
