Editorial Contract

This contract is between Laura L. Watkins (Editor) and ____________________ (Client) and concerns the following
agreements:

4. Services to be rendered:
a. Small Project Editing: A basic overall critique with minor spelling/typographical errors will be provided to the
client.
b. Basic Content Edit: A basic overall critique is provided to the client.
c. In-Depth Content Edit: A comprehensive overall critique will be provided to the client. Additional markups
showing major spelling, typographical, grammatical, punctuation errors will be included. The storyline, setting,
point of view, and character development will be reviewed.
d. Multi-Round Content Edit: For manuscripts with a highly significant number of major problems discovered
during the initial edit. A second edit will be completed after the client has revised the manuscript according the
initial edit. Additional fees will apply for each additional round of edits conducted. A comprehensive overall
critique of the manuscript will be provided to the client. The storyline, setting, point of view, and character
development will be reviewed.
e. Creative Edit: A thorough critique of the storyline, setting, point of view, and character development.
TERMS
1. Editing Time Frame
1.1. The Editor and Client will agree upon a time frame. The Editor agrees to return the edited manuscript within
15 business days unless otherwise arranged with the client.
1.2. Exceptions may occur. If, within the first three chapters, the Editor determines that the manuscript calls for
significantly heavy editing, the Editor reserves the right to return the manuscript to the client for initial revision.
In such cases, a reasonable time frame will be agreed upon between the Editor and the Client. Additional fees
may apply.
1.3. The Editor and the Client may agree upon a shorter time frame for an additional fee.
2. Compensation
2.1. The Editor will give the Client a quote based upon the length of the manuscript and the depth of editing the
manuscript will require.
2.2. Once the Editor and Client have agreed upon the service to be rendered, the price of the service, and the
time frame the service will be completed, a $50 deposit shall be delivered to the Editor. (Payable through Eden
Literary.) Editing services will not commence until the deposit is paid. The deposit will be applied toward the
total payment owed unless other circumstances arise as described in section 3.2 of this contract.
2.3. Once the Editor has finished editing the manuscript, the Editor will notify the Client. When full payment has
been made, the Editor will return the edited manuscript to the author within two (2) business days. The Client
shall take no longer than ten (10) business days to make full payment.
2.4. The Editor and the Client may agree upon different payment arrangements.
3. Service Terms
3.1. With respect to the editing assignment, the Editor agrees to perform editing services in a reasonable and
skilled manner and return the edited Work within the time agreed upon.
3.2. The Editor retains the right to discontinue editing services at any time during the editing process. In such
cases, the Editor will inform the Client as to the reasons. The Client will not be charged the full price of the
editing services. In such cases, if fifty (50) pages or more have been edited and returned to the Client, the Editor
will retain the $50 deposit fee. If fifty (50) pages or less have been edited and returned to the Client, the $50
deposit may be refunded in full or part.
3.3. Any changes or special arrangements to these terms must be made clear before sending the deposit and
manuscript.
