when throwing for accuracy, during simulated practice, AMB Elbow for Accuracy.

MATERIALS

- 8-12 light weight pins
- 20-30 gator balls
- 27 sentence frames (for student completion IN CLASS) w/pencils
- Access to white board
- Throw Accuracy poster with sentence frame (filled out in closure)
- Blue Marker
*teacher will set up multiple pins in various spots on either side of the court.

PROCEDURE

Anticipatory Set (or Motivation or Hook or Building Background):
The students will come in and sit in their focus lines. After preliminary
class management, the teacher will sit down with the students and readdress
what was learned in the previous lesson (Lesson 1: Throw Power). Once this
is accomplished, the teacher will engage the students by asking them to read
with him what is on the board (as follows):

Learning Target: Today we will throw for accuracy
How?! By pointing our off elbow
[insert sentence frame]
Chicken Wing (the keyword for using the off elbow)

Teaching (and/or Modeling):
The teacher will then use a real projectile (realia) and model for the
students using the concept for the day
[ teacher will read through the sentence frame and perform that action as it
is being said (including the reference to the movement looking like that of a
chickens wing) ].

The teacher will then ask a student to assist him. The student will stand 10 feet
away from the teacher and the teacher will then take the students through the
concept of throwing with accuracy (i.e. using the off elbow ), reinforcing what
was modeled. The teacher will explain thoroughly how this will assist with throwing
accuracy by mentioning:
[Undergraduate WOU/ESOL Lesson Plan Template 2010-2011]

- It allows you to find your target
- It allows you to see where your ball will go
- It allows you to ensure your body is in a good orientation

Guided Practice (or Group Application): The teacher will prompt the students in
filling in the sentence frame that is written on the board once more, allowing
plenty of time for students to think. The teacher will have the students join in a
choral respect in any keywords or key points that the teacher feels need to be
highlighted (i.e. off elbow, chicken wing).

The teacher will then explain the game.
- Name= Accuracy Arcade
- Teams = split 50/50
- How?
o Each team uses their accuracy skills to knock down the pins on the
other teams side. Teacher may structure Win/Loses or restarts as
they so choose.
- THIS IS NOT A DODGEBALL GAME!
Once this is complete, the teacher will split the class in half and have one
team go to either side of the gym. As the group is split, the teacher will prompt
the students to answer Target Learning questions (i.e. teacher: What is the goal
of this game? Students: To use the chicken wing for accuracy). The students
will practice this movement a time or two and then the teacher will explain the
game that is involved, called Accuracy Arcade.

Independent Practice (or Independent Application): Accuracy Arcade.
-Teacher will observe ALL students and take note of the students who are not
able to meet the criteria to complete the assessment Elbow for Accuracy.

-Students will be pulled-out to fill in the Throwing: Power Vs. Accuracy
assessment.

*students who do not feel comfortable (for health reasons) with the
movement will not be required to participate to the full extent during this
activity

Closure:
The teacher will then blow the whistle, indicating that the students should
Freeze . The teacher will then ask the students to return the equipment and
meet him by the Poster.
The teacher will then read the sentence once.
The teacher will then have the students help fill in the blanks.

Students will then be thanked for their participation and the positive things that
did, and dismissed.
