Atwater High School Science Department

Mrs. Kale
I. Class Requirements
A. Each student must bring the following to class daily:
1. Science Book
2. Three-ring binder with dividers
3. Paper.
4. Pencil or a Pen (navy blue or black). Note: You must secure the appropriate writing
utensil BEFORE THE BELL to avoid disciplinary measures. Failure to bring all materials to class
will result in a LUNCH DETENTION on the 3
rd
violation and all sequential offenses.

B. Binder Requirements: Part of your grade depends on your binder presentation. Binders
are collected on Unit Test days. All notes and class/homework must be in binder in order to
receive credit. Inappropriate graffiti and/or pictures are not allowed on your binders. Your
binder should always be divided in the following way:
1. "Daily Activity Calendar"
2. "Academic Vocabulary"
3. "Partner Reading"
4. "Class Notes"
5. "Class Work/Homework"
You should have a total of five dividers plus blank notebook paper.

II. First Five Minutes of Class: the first five minutes of class begin the same way every day.
Students are required to copy down the days Daily Objective. Daily Calendars will be kept in
the first section of the student binder. This calendar will list everything that the class will be
doing for the day including homework. The Calendar serves two purposes:
1. It is a way of making sure that you write down whether or not you have homework or
an assignment due the next day.
2. It serves as a record of what work was done on each day of the unit.

III. Absences: When a student is absent or excessively tardy, the following is the procedure he
or she follows on return to school:
A. Before class, borrow a classmates activity calendar to copy down information from missed
day/s. If needed, retrieve worksheets from appropriate class cube, do not ask me for work or
what you missed, unless you have asked three other students first. Make-up work from an
absence must be turned into the tray labeled Late Work. You must write the date you were
absent at the top of the assignment. If you fail to do this, the assignment will be marked late.
B. If a test was missed, the student may make it up during the week of his/her return. The
test must be made up before school, at lunch or during homeroom.
C. For excused absences no academic penalty shall be assessed. However, for unexcused
absences and truancies, penalties to both academic (50% of points possible) and citizenship
grades shall be assessed.
D. If a student is tardy at least 10 times during a semester, they will automatically receive an
unsatisfactory citizenship grade.

IV. Late Work
YES, you can turn in late homework (work not done is class). Homework must be turned
in before the unit test to the late tray. After the unit test, no late work will be accepted. I will
not accept any late binders; binders are always due on the day of the test. NO EXCEPTIONS.
