1. Process- There was many different approaches to the different works I did.

But for this

assignment, I will talk about two pieces and what I did to make the final draft. One of the pieces
I will talk about is the poetry research paper. On the day we got the assignment, we learned
about the topics. Then I randomly chose a poem and 1 other work by its author. Then
Throughout the class, I used scansions to help me understand the meaning and the techniques
of the poem. Then I started to read the critics view on the two works by my poet which was
Wilfred Owen. I went to Evernote and made notecards that contained quotes from the critics
that supported my working thesis. Soon I made a thesis and 25 notecards with quotes from the
critics. Then I started on my rough draft. Next class, Max edited my paper by making questions
about my piece. Finally I started my final draft.

The second work I prepared was the Valentines Day Pastiche Poem. This was a little similar to
preparation stage of the Poetry Research paper. In this work, I first used scansion of the original
poem by E.E Cummings which was titled 9. Then we worked in groups to find the hidden
meanings behind the poem and what special technique was used. Finally I started my pastiche
after I got familiar with the different techniques that Cummings used in his works. I based my
poem off of the poem 9. Then I incorporated techniques and wordings in 9 into my poem. I used
repetition of words, special bracketing of words, and shape to convey meaning.
2. One of the things that I liked about my products was the evidence for each of my point. It
seemed that the research on the person and quotes from others really made my essays seem
valid and correct. I accomplished the support of my essays by researching extensively about the
person or the poem. I have never put in evidence and support like this before. In my poetry
research paper, I learned how to scan the poems. The different stress syllables allowed me to
know the milieu of the person and why Wilfred Owen wrote the pieces like that. So I used the
scansion as a support for one of my arguments. I gained knowledge on how to research and use
resources to support my points and that is what I love my products. Another thing that I like
about my products is that I had fewer grammatical mistakes in my papers. I achieved this by
working on the Bedford exercises. I did not understand the verb tenses at first but when I kept
practicing with the Bedford Handbook, I comprehended the mechanics of it. The practices in
class allowed me to create a grammatically correct paper. Also I like that my essays especially
my poetry research paper, identify symbolism and irony stated by the author. Although it is
subtle in the poem, irony is embedded everywhere. I did not realize that until I read the authors
background and the critics comments. Then I used that in my essays. By reading the critics I felt
that I knew the poem well and I recognized subtle literary techniques that made the poem even
more engaging.
3. The different writings pushed different abilities that I had. One ability that improved was my
citation skill. During the poetry research paper, I read the critics and paraphrased them. Then I
made a bibliography for each of the sources I used. By looking at Mrs. Boyds guide on citations,
I made my bibliography flawless. Now I know how to paraphrase and quote in essays. Also by
doing the poetry research paper, I learned the MLA citation format. Another ability I improved
was my vocabulary skills. In my works, I incorporated different quiz let terms into my works. This
helped me to learn my vocabulary well and helped me understand when to use the certain
words.
4. I would like to write better by making paragraphs more engaging. In all of my essays, my
introduction paragraph has been the hardest paragraph to write. I have had trouble with
creating sentences that engaged the reader. I believe that learning to hook the reader will
dramatically increase my skills in writing. Also I would like to use short sentences that put out
the point. In the poetry research paper, many of my sentences were too wordy and were
incomprehensible. But I would like to learn how to use words in order to create short effective
sentences that still interest the reader instead of long wordy ones that bore them.
