Reminders:
- No after school clubs this week.
- Your child will need their flashlight again this
week!
- Please see the Year Book form on the
Weebly. It is a first come first served basis so
if you are interested please send the money
and form to school ASAP.
- Please note that the Parent Teacher Sign-up
sheets will be outside the classroom. If you
are not able to sign up personally there will
be an email with the times. Please send two
of your preferred options and I will do my
best to accommodate you.

LANGUAGE ARTS
Reading: This week students will be reading
online only. Please have your child read and
record their reading on RAZ KIDS. Your child
can also read RAZ KIDS all summer long!! All of
us Grade 1 teachers will be opening up more
levelled books for them to read. Make sure your
child is reading a book at least 2 times a week
all summer long so they do not regress in their
learning!
Spelling: There will be no more spelling this
week. Over the summer, have your child practice
spelling high frequency words from Grade 1 and
Grade 2 using these websites:

Writing and Grammar: This week we will be
creatively writing a script and planning for our
shadow puppet shows. This is part of the final
assessment for our Inquiry into Light and Sound.

Portfolio project: You child will be finishing off
their final pieces for their portfolio. These are
pieces of work or projects they have done that
hold special meaning or their best learning.


INQUIRING ABOUT LIGHT AND SOUND

This is our last week in the Unit of Inquiry into Light and
sound help us experience our world. We will be creating
our final assessment on light and sound. Students will work
in groups to plan and write a script for their shadow puppet
show. We will be recording their final products and
watching them as a class. Make sure your child has a
flashlight to use this week.

During this weekend (June 12-14), please have your
child be without electricity for 1 hour. This is
celebrating Earth Hour and students will reflect in
writing and drawing on their experience of it on

MATH
This final week of math, we will be exploring fractions.
Students will be investigating fractional sizes and comparing
them. We will also be exploring what equivalent fractions
are.

Key language your child needs to know:
Numerator how many of the equal parts we have.
Denominator the total number of equal parts.
Equivalent fractions- fractions of the same size (i.e. 2/4
and )

Review at home using

games and support to enhance your childs math skills.

www.ixl.com/math/grade-1 is a great website to see
what skills your child needs to practice for grade 1 and 2.

www.multiplication.com is a great website to get your child
ahead and practice an important math skill for Grade 2.
